I almost had that happen to me at a Mammoth race years ago. I jacked my pedal on the rock and went over the bars down a chute. The rock followed and "luckily" landed on my bike instead of me. It scratched and dented my frame and punched a hole in my Boxxer lowers.

And here I thought it was completely a freak accident... I'm hearing a few stories similar to yours.... One of the hazards I guess.
