3C MaxxTerra
An intermediate triple compound configuration with a hard compound base layer, medium compound top layer, and soft compound shoulder layer. Good for trail riding in all conditions.
MaxxTerra (2026 update)
The same triple compound configuration as the original 3C, but with an all-new rubber formulation delivering improved durability and stronger traction across a range of conditions without sacrificing rolling efficiency.
3C MaxxGrip
Dual CompoundUses the stickiest, slowest-rebounding rubber compounds to offer maximum grip and traction.
Two compounds used within the tread to offer lower rolling resistance and increased cornering grip.
EXO Casing
A cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to 60 TPI sidewalls. This densely woven fabric is lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that performance remains unaffected. Recommended for enhanced durability for gravel, XC, and light-duty trail riding.
EXO+ Casing (pre-2022)
120 TPI with SilkShield and EXO protection materials for improved tread puncture protection. The SilkShield layer runs from bead-to-bead with a layer of EXO along the sidewalls.
EXO+ Casing (2022 update)
Combines a 60 TPI casing with EXO sidewall protection and a small butyl insert at the bead to protect from pinch flats and rim damage. (50% more puncture resistant and up to 20% less prone to snakebites compared to the previous generation). Medium-duty protection suitable for all-around trail riding and lightweight e-bikes.
Double Down (DD) Casing
Two layers of lightweight 120 TPI casing material are combined with a butyl sidewall insert to create a highly durable tire with more trail feedback than a Downhill casing tire. Good for enduro racing and e-bike use.
Downhill (DH)
New DH Casing (2026 update)Made with two layers of durable 60 TPI casing material along with a large butyl rubber insert that extends from each bead into the sidewall. The butyl insert helps prevent pinch flats, protects the rim from impacts, and provides additional sidewall stability.
Dual-ply, 2x120 TPI layer construction with new casing material, wider overlap of casing layers, extra sidewall protection, and a high-hardness butyl insert at the bead. E25 and E50 rated. The new construction and progressive casing stiffness improved compliance, support, and durability.
*After 2025, Maxxis will discontinue the Wide Trail (WT) labeling on their tires. Originally introduced to identify tires built for wider rims, the WT label is being retired because every current 2.4" and 2.5" tire is already engineered for wide rims, making the extra branding redundant.
