Contrary to popular belief there is more to jumping than just riding fast and pulling up. It's a fundamental skill that comes in handy even if you’re not planning on ever sending Fest Series sized jumps. The average trail offering countless opportunities to "send it", whether it's over perfectly manicured jumps or sketchy gaps over roots and rocks the same basic body movements are required. These basic movements known as pumping can be learnt without even leaving the ground. Pumping is a great way to get relaxed on the bike and build your confidence.
A lack of confidence is often one of the biggest barriers to progressing your jumping skills and hitting new jump lines for the first time is daunting for a lot of riders. However like everything, practice makes perfect. To help, we’ve curated a selection of how-to videos starting from the basic pumping movements required to harness your kinetic energy to more advanced airborne manoeuvre.
Just remember when you are ready to leave the ground, start small and only progress onto larger more risky jumps one you're confident in your abilities. Have a safe flight.
