Was listening to a podcast recently that discussed shuttling to get laps in, and it kind of gave me a goofy idea. Why hasn't anyone tried combining rally/off-road racing with Enduro style MTB racing?
An Enduro/DH mtb rider teams up with an off-road driver, a "lap" begins at the bottom of a mountain w/ the rider and bike loaded into a 4x4 race vehicle. The ascent to the top of the mtb trail, as well as the descent to the finish line is timed. Could have multiple stages like Enduro.
I'd imagine finding a suitable location to race something like this would be difficult, racing up a fire road would cause damage. It'd be a pretty fun event to watch though.
Great minds think alike. I've had this idea too a while back. Would teams choose a trophy truck? Or more of a rally car or side by side? Build your own custom bike rack?
Here's why I wouldn't want to strap my bike to a rally car:
I was thinking something more along the lines of a souped up 4runner, TJ or other midsized SUV type vehicle - as I envision the roads to the top being rather narrow.
Haha yeah you'd be risking a damaged bike, but I imagine the vehicle is also prone to damage. Just part of the game I guess.
Allowing and encouraging cars to race inside MTB networks?
I can’t think of any reasons why it would be a bad idea?
