We've been following the adventures of 4x and enduro racer Hannes Slavik for a couple of years, and we've seen him come close to capturing the elusive rainbow stripes before - imagine the horror of leading the finals once again, only to be taken out from the back in what some describe as a "racing incident", but which looks more reckless than anything else to us. Be that as it may, at least this time Hannes walked away with a medal! Hear from the man himself below, and check out the footage from an eventful World Championship campaign.
Once again everything went perfect for me at the UCI 4x World Championships in Italy! A solid 2nd place qualifying run put me into a good position for Friday's finals.
I won all my runs without any problems. In the final for the medals I managed to stay focused and did what I had to do. Leading the whole track Barry Nobles went outside of the track, through the barrier tape into my back wheel and my hip in a flat slippery left turn... there was no way I could hold on to this and three riders went down(Barry finished 4th).
It's the second time in the last two years I was on my way to get this rainbow jersey. Let's be honest ... that silver medal doesn't feel as good as it should, but I am so thankful I didn't have to make my way home with empty pockets and a 4th place again. So I am world number two and I can proudly remove "UCI World Champs Medal" from my career to-do list...stripes are still left though!
