Zen & Grafton are my two favorites in the area. Depending on the day, I either love or hate Gooseberry Mesa (probably not open during the review time). Gooseberry eats my bike components as fast as Kobayashi eats hotdogs (last fall both my pedals disintegrated for no apparent reason).

Thanks for the info. The rock garden section of Grafton Mesa used to epic; but it's taming down. My guess is that every time someone goes OTB on a rock they remove it, when they should add one. I've stayed away from Nephi's Twist (I'm not really a big fan the high penalty points on the knife-edge section) but will probably give it a go sometime this year.

@bturman: thanks for the reply. I totally agree--the creaking probably would have sounded worse if Matt and Jess had ridden them on gnarlier trails. Were most of the bikes tested demo bikes? (I would have thought that manufactures would have sent you new, top-of-the-line bikes to review; and it would have been difficult to find 2013 demo bikes.)

JEM trail is a XC trail that is best suited for a hard-tail 29er. http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/trails/jem.htm Did you try the bike out on any AM or DH trails (e.g. Grafton Mesa or Flying Monkey)?
