I had 29er rims laced to fat hubs, no adapters. I actually sold those wheels/tires, but they were great, just had someone make me a great offer when they weren't even for sale and I took it. I am in the process of lacing up a new set of 29ers. The wheels and tires are an initial investment, but I can't afford to spend $300+ every year on fat tires, I would much rather spend $120 on 29er tires. So I haven't run the ebike with 29ers yet, but it is fantastic with the fatty setup. I love it.

Oh yeah, 197 makes sense for you then, since you are used to it and have the parts already! I'm anxious to see the end result if you go for a Marino, I've been really happy with all 3 of mine.

I hadn’t thought about superboost spacing but it kind of makes sense. Main reason i would be doing 197 is so all my parts could transfer over from my RSD Mayor. All the other FS fatties are so expensive. Id love to get a Foes Mutz but want to try the Marino first as proof of concept before i drop 3,000 on a frame(after paint). I only would likely go 27.5 x4 (what i run now on my Mayor) and want to do 29x3 so a 157 could work, it would just be a whole build. thanks for the input.

TLDR - you should give it a go! Maybe go 157 rear spacing. Long version- Not a ton of miles, but yes! Trails finally started opening up recently after the spring mud. I love the bike, I'll add a picture with the 29+ wheels. I still need to do some tweaking with my suspension, the fork is too damped fully open and the shock is too soft fully closed. The fork isn't too bad and I wouldn't open it up much more anyway, but the shock likely needs a custom tune, as I'd like it to ride fully open the...

Sweet! I think this is the only Marino full fat online anywhere. I’ve been thinking about having one built. Any cons? Are you stoked on it? I am wanting for year round use on Midwest single track.

Thanks for the reply i may reach out again come spring to see how it fares on dirt. I’ve got an rsd mayor v5 now that id like to swap parts from. The 197 rear and race face cranks i have i may need to look into if it will fit on a full fat Marino. Do they only do elevated chainstays with the full fat?

I requested the elevated stays as they are stiffer than the lower/regular ones and I'm heavy. As far as I know, he'll do whichever you want. If you can provide the width or Q-Factor of your cranks, that would probably help him check. Each bike is unique and handmade, so your fitment could be slightly different than mine even with the same requested specs. We are talking such a small amount in one very specific area of the frame. I wish I could give you more detail on how it rides, but my shock died after about a half mile! Wouldn't extend beyond half stroke, so I had to ride back to the car with 60% sag. That first half mile felt great though! I based it on my 2020 Stumpjumper geometry plus some extra reach. I think it will be sweet for year round riding here in Minnesota, I have a second set of hubs that I'll be lacing to some 29er rims. The little chain guide doesn't touch the chain, so it shouldn't reduce chain life or steal watts (not that I'm counting those to begin with, I don't wear lycra). Grips, I wouldn't have a problem with, they aren't an overly complicated item. A bad bash guard will still offer more protection than no bash guard, but I don't run one either way. I think it depends on the component or accessory. My $4 ISCG05 Chain guide has worked great! I would never buy handlebars, cranks or pedals there, let alone a fork. My usual thought process is, if it fails, will it cause me to wreck? If so, get something legit. If not, I might roll the dice.
