Have evil started adding aluminum sleeves into the front triangle where the rocker link bearing spacers rest? Because if not, it's a shame...that front triangle will be chipping away and start creaking...like the few I have disassembled...It also looks like the head tube is wearing a diaper....

I have kind of decided it is the angle of backsweep on the leading edge and or kind of diamond shape outer edge that makes a pedal deflect nicely...not chamfering the front edge. The spank spikes, Canfield crampons, and these pnw pedals all have kind of a backswept leading and outer profile. The spikes really are the best I have found for deflecting nicely.

I also have never noticed a difference in the frequency of pedal strikes between something like vaults or these "thinner" leading edge pedals...BUT I do notice a huge difference between pedals in how they catch or deflect off things. Vaults will halt you, all the other pedals discussed so far here will deflect nicely, so that effectively pedal strikes don't matter unless you sandwich your toes in between a rock and a pedal...then you're usually bucked hard and or OTB maybe with a broken toe or foot. Spank pedals act like little outrigger skis when they touch down.

That's an interesting point about foot position. I ride farther forward, somthing like ball of foot in between the spindle and front edge. Got used to it from the huck to flat and street riding days when I learned. I would jack my ankles up otherwise. I even used to dremmel out the cleat channels farther back on clipless shoes...now most brands offer a lot more rearward adjustment than they used to. But I hardly ever clip...

I have been riding Canfield pedals for a handful of years because the convex doesn't give me sore feet on long rides, I like to move my feet around or dab when getting loose, and I found them to be plenty grippy if you have good techniques...I never actually feel I need more grip as long as my shoes aren't too stiff or are broken in if they are stiff shoes. I would love to try these, or hear a comparison from someone who likes Canfield pedals....

Take a gusset Lil chap upper chaing guide - the one that clamps to the seat tube, and then use another upper iscg 05 chain guide. Find a pulley from something. Use the Lil chap as an additional brace to support the iscg 05 chain guide as close to your pulley as possible, I would probably try to mount it...

That is an amazing time capsule. Thanks for sharing. Really impressive restoration. There was one of these in my area 2001ish. I remember how bad ass I thought it was. I had a 1998 Trek DH-200 that I never should have parted with.

Him and zink both. Perhaps more importantly, Tom Van Steenbergen is going to make a full recovery. Broken bones, some surgery, some hard physio, and he will be shredding again. He had the run going to beat Semenuk.

That is really well done. I love the paint and graphics. Super practical build also. How much did covid play into it? Or were you still able to pick all the parts you had in mind? Either way, it looks perfect to me. Looks like a fun bike...and not to dentisty or too hipster. It's hard to find that middle ground on a project like this.

Rarely do I see one of these bikes that I wouldn't change a thing on. You sir have accomplished that! You're bike is perfect. Maybe a different Michelin combo depending on terrain, but even then the tires you're on are a sick combo. That is one hell of a nice build. I'm not a huge fan of 35mm bars, but I would rock those. Also XO would be nice, but I would rock GX. You have achieved maximum shred for your buck. Nice work!
