Not on this one, just wet sanding with different grids 120-400. On another project I used paint remover Lavacol but it was a mess. Maybe you dont even need to sand it to the base, just where the rust is, On other parts the primer will cover it all.

Sanded by hand.... Did you use a machine at all? Wire wheel on a drill or something? I was actually unsure how to approach this. I would love to sand it down to the frame and repaint.

Hey sonic bionic, Yes, the fork is threded. I used quill stem adapter (link) which converts 1˝ pipe to 1 1/8 that is compatible with regular stems, The bike came long way since then, this is the current set up: -700c wheels with road caliper brakes -integrated shifters on brake levers -polished some black components -new color and decals current bike

Thanks man. This frame I sanded it down to base by hand, than added a coat of primer, sanded, 3 coats of color, sanded and 2 clear coats on top. It turned out great, no chips to this day. Ordered decals from China and got them in no time. Now as you said, I will maybe change the seatpost to black .. 700 c wheels fitted no problem! Enough clerance with 35mm tyres as well. Only thing I had to bodge was adding longer axle thru rear hub, beause road hubs use 130 spacing and frame is 135. just added...

I like the new set up! I prefer the black seat post, though. How well do the 700c wheels fit? Do you have a weight on that baby?

That's awesome. I actually think I may have that adapter. Although my headset still works smoothly, it looks a bit rusted. The rest of the frame is in great shape, save a few small areas with a touch of surface rust. My plan was to, at some point, sandblast the whole frame and repaint. Turn the bike into what you have in this picture. Now I want to see your new set up! Pictures, please!

Great bike! I made this account just to talk about it. I have the same one in a larger frame. I am curious about how you got that bar/stem set up. It's a threaded fork isn't it?
