After a lot of wait I finally managed to get hold of an Öhlins TTX 22M coil shock for my Spartan. I just got back from one week of bike park riding in Åre, Sweden, and I can't be happier about the performance of the bike. I was really surprised about how much the suspension performance did improve. Both when it comes a better support in the initial part of the stroke, a more linear feel, and that all small (but tiring) hits from roots, rocks and brake bumps were more or less filtered out by the coil. Good review! Having spent one season on my Spartan I do definitely recognize the harshness you describe in rougher terrain, as well as the search for the right SAG and rebound settings to solve this issue. I have been wondering if there has been something wrong with my RS Monarch since other riders seem to be lyric about the performance of the shock on other bikes, but after reading this review I realised that it might not be the case. I'm most likely going for a coil shock for the upcoming season, and your arguments seem to support that idea.
