Just did the mod on the shock. That spacer was though... Soldering iron worked best, nice and slow. Took pics of before and after clearances, no issues statically. I do believe the gap is plenty ever with frame flex in mind. We'll see how it rides. Standby.

Yeah, will do. Have to wait a while until my arm is better though, I wouldn't even be able to open up the shock as it is right now.

Oh cool, that makes sense, as the bodies are all 185mm, so the only difference between 55/52.5/50 is a spacer then. Let us know how it goes! I decided to get the piggyback c2 version, but your option is deffo the best value!

I just found out today that you can turn the 50 mm stroke Deluxe Ultimate into a 55 mm stroke by removing a spacer just below the tokens. Normaly you can only take it off when you open up the damper but since it's plastic you can just cut it and get it of the shaft that way. I am due for a 50h service so its the perfect time.

Yeah so I could even run a 130 fork in future if I wanted to. Doubt I'd ever go over 150 on this bike though. I think 130 rear would work really well with 130/140/150 front. Before my new rear shock turned up, 120 rear worked really well with 140 fork. 10-20mm extra on the fork (compared to the shock) seems the appropriate amount.

Ah ok. Didn't know that about the 36. That's a really wide range. Cool.

To me it doesn't feel too slack at all. Still in the low shock mount position too. Still climbs and steers really well. The good thing with the fox 36 is you can run any where between 130-170 with different air shafts. I'm starting with 140, but will try 150 next winter...

Pike should be good, as can run with any of the 120/130/140mm air shafts. Lyrik is another option of you ever wanted to go to 150mm, but then you could also go with fox 36.

Yeah, should be back on the bike I middle of January. Nice! Don't get why Trek didn't spec it with a 55 stroke to begin with ... I'm gonna start with a 130 mm Pike up from. The Sid was either to harsh for the trails or to soft for the jumps for me

Broken arm sucks. Hopefully heals quickly. My shock turned up and the 55mm piggyback fits perfectly in the frame at full travel! I'm also running 220mm brake discs up front and 203mm at the rear and braking is much better now. Also fitted a 28T chainring as I need a lower gear for the big hills I climb up to get to the DH tracks.

Just if you're interested. I tried my Top Fuel as a mullet. Felt totally doable in the high setting. Couldn't evaluate properly though since I had a different tyre on the 27.5 wheel. Have ordered a new but that will have to wait a while since I broke my arm on Saturday.... 😤

Deffo a beefed up top fuel. It's a really good frame. A bit more travel, bigger discs, smaller chainring (and for me a shorter 150mm travel dropper post) and it's damn near perfect.

The rear shock is still to arrive, but as soon as it's fitted I'll let you know. The front forks are brilliant with zero downsides so I've also ordered a 150mm air spring to try out next.

I removed the shock and measured 130mm between the eyelets (the lowest the 185-55mm shock will go) and there's around 5mm of room between the frame and swingarm so it should be fine

I'm doing something similar to my 2022 Top Fuel 8. Just ordered a Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate 55mm (130mm) shock and Fox 36 Float Factory Grip X 140mm fork. Basically makes it a lightweight version of the 2022 Fuel Ex!
