3/17/2023 8:52pm My response was in the wrong context. I was thinking how measuring one side shouldn't affect the tension on the other side - therefore it doesn't matter. That's not what he was asking so thanks for the correction.

3/16/2023 9:30pm Doesn't matter which side. One side typically has shorter spokes which will have higher tension (due to a lower bracing angle) than the longer spokes. This is due to offset from a disc brake mount or freehub. Offset rims and different flange lengths could actually get you symmetrical spokes, in that case they would likely be very close or the...

On the free spin while mounted comments: Free spin without load doesn't really indicate much. For example think of those fidget spinners people used to have. Taking out bearing grease made them spin forever in your hand. Turn a bearing under load, without oil or grease, and the friction tends to go up quite a bit.
