Yes i read your comment about dirt strider, and to agree with you, my three have all started on a runner bike before progressing up to pedal bikes(without stabilizers), they are the best way to start, But to be able to take your kids with you for some fun is a good thing too, my boys are not at the age of yours but my eldest at five rode a large section of the worst bits of the trail we encountered on this years holiday, now whether riding up front with me has made him a better or worse rider...

Have used a system similar to this for nearly4 years, done mountain tops and trails on my full-sus and also road miles with my hard tail, both on town streets and long distance touring, on road and off road (including this year the "Great Glen Way" 80Miles off road from Inverness to Fortwilliam) fully loaded with panniers and the youngest up front and the eldest on a follow-me tandem, was great and the boys loved it.
