Ride for the joy of it.
This pretty much sums it up. I'm not the rich kid (or the old dentist) with the newest bike, and I haven't been mountain biking since I was three. I ride because it feels good and because it does me good. I don't need the new Incredibike to enjoy where I'm at or what I'm doing- all I need is the bike I'm on and the dirt under the tires.
