I rode in a set of these and honestly they are incredible best pad i have ever ridden in, soooo comfy and i have ridden the kyle straits for 4 years and the D3o version, Fox is the best hands down. As for them copying, well i mean come on what company doesn't already do a soft knee pad, race face, azonic 661 etc etc. They all look the same . The knee has certain bones that need to be protected and when you put a pad over each one you end up with the same pad as everyone else...
