I just wish Pivot would quit ignoring me on their sizing. Their Small and Medium sizes always have a much bigger gap in them than all their other sizes. Not a big deal to most, but as I fit right in the middle of their S and M, I'm always sacrificing something on their bikes. Frustrating...

Almost.....needs at least some orange or turquoise accents on the fork and a Sharpie needs to meet and destroy those hideous Maxxis logos.

4/24/2018 6:51am You made a great choice. The Ikons are what you'll see all over XC races, from WC to local races. The Ardent Race is a great tire for rougher, more technical courses. A little slower rolling but a little more grip, both braking and cornering.

I know that as I too use Maxxis tires. But I would think that if someone were to go to such lengths to “match” everything, they would at least Sharpie out the ugly yellow letters on the tires like I do.

So comparing this bike to the Following, you gave the Following 3 stars for climbing and 4.5 for descending, whereas you gave the Mach 429Trail 5 for climbing and 3.5 for going down. But you rated the Following higher in both "Fun" and "Overall Impression". Given that these are "trail" bikes and not DH sleds, maybe pro DH'ers aren't the best objective testers out there? Just a little nit-pick, cuz I do love your thorough tests.

Well just like I thought. The bike is PERFECT for me. I'm an old (56) XC racer who wanted a bike in addition to my Pivot Mach 429SL that I can get a LITTLE bit rowdier on. It still had to climb great and be able to descend as well as I can (which is not like these pro dh'ers and I don't jump much). Been riding it for a few months and agree with all that you said about it. Climbs great (mine's 25 pounds) and descends with much more confidence than my xc race sled. Thanks for reinforcing...

5/5/2016 7:13pm Trainingpeaks.com is MUCH better than Strava for tracking your rides, speed, and any other data you may want. Strava's only advantage is the competitive nature of it, if you wanna call the an advantage.
