On June 14, the OneUp x SORCA DH race brought some of British Columbia’s best gravity athletes to Squamish to take on the steep, fast course. We made a big change this year, moving the event to June instead of mid-October. The new date brought 30 degree heat and dry conditions, a welcome change from the heavy rain and single-digit temperatures we’ve faced in the past.
The Track
1.4km long with 454m of vertical drop, the OneUp x SORCA DH Track is the real deal. For regular riders, it’s an accomplishment to complete a full clean run of the track. For elite riders who are training for World Cup DH, like Ryan Griffith, Mack Manietta, Jonathan Helly, Xavier Harrison and Ruby Wells, it’s the perfect training ground. This year’s dry conditions and high-caliber start list delivered course records in all categories.
A Bright Future for DH
The average age of racers was just 20 years old. For comparison, most SORCA events have an average much closer to 40. The speed and skill on display in the Junior Male category, thelargest on the day, was mind-blowing.
Junior Male winner, Bernardo Gomes, posted the 5th fastest time of the day. Ruby Wells, still a junior but racing Pro, set the fastest time in the female categories and took the Pro win. But it wasn’t just about the groms. Local legends Rob Davis and Anna Turyk led the Master’s categories with decisive wins for both.
A Gravity Community
In its third year, the event is becoming a true community gathering for DH riders and their families, who came out to support the race on track, volunteer and attend the after-party. A DH race requires a lot of volunteers and coordination. There were over 80 volunteers working as marshals, timers, course support and just general help. We’d like to send a massive thank you to everyone who made this event possible.

Support Your Local Bike Race
The original vision for the event was to build a track worthy of the talented riders here in Squamish and create a safe, well-organized event for the DH community. This event would not be possible without the tireless work of SORCA staff and volunteers. This year, the event raised over $5,000 for SORCA that will go into building and maintaining Squamish’s amazing trails for everyone (not just DH racers!). Looking to organize something like this in your area? Apply to OneUp’s Support Your Local Bike Race program for access to funding, support and stoke.
