This bike is similar to my last Rallon but since it's now a Large with different suspension and new wheels, I decided it warranted a new Check. At 6' tall, I agonized over ditching the MD for the LG but I am absolutely loving the bigger frame. I am finding more speed with the extra cockpit room and not too sad about giving up some low speed maneuverability. The 2017 Fox stuff is superb and the Float X2 with the climbing lever is a big improvement over my BOS setup. The narrower Enve M60HV are more versatile than the 70HV and save some weight as well. Love everything about the new setup.

+1 on the question, hows the new shock compared to the old? Also, did u use some custom eyelets or something to install this fox? It has like 1mm clearance on top ;o

The 36 is stiffer and lighter than the BOS I had before, and the 10mm extra travel is nice, especially on this bike that already has a low BB. The Float X2 climb switch works better than the one on the Kirk, which always made such awful noises and had an "edgier" platform feel with a fragile, damage-prone lever. The X2 feels plusher at the beginning, both the X2 and the Kirk had good mid-stroke support. The x2 stays more consistent when it warms up, I had strange performance/temperature variations with the Kirk. I also had a few more warranty/reliability issues with BOS than I am used to.

I liked the BOS suspension quite a bit, when it came out I think it was quite ahead of the competition. The DeVille felt a bit plusher right in the initial stroke than this 36, and the BOS stuff seemed to have a wider adjustment range, but I feel I am able to make more subtle adjustments with the fox units. Overall I feel like I went from four-stars to four-and-a-half with the numerous small improvements with Fox.

Ah, regarding clearance: It's really close, about 1-2mm and I had to mod the mount a bit. No issues whatsoever at this point. I believe there are some changes to the shock mount on the 2017 models to give more room now that the Float X2 will be standard on the X-Team model.

how did u exactly mod the mount? Some offset eyelets of some kind? Unrotunately my frame is 2015 so unless i sell it (which im trying to do) theres no way to mount all the good shocks

How do you find the 495mm ST?, it gives you enough clearance at 6ft tall?
You keep it in xlow with the 170mm fork, right?, that was my plan before I bail out, get crazy and start building 26" wheels GT(which I'm now selling it in order to build one exactly the same but with 27.5" wheels).

Nice build by the way!(I would still prefer mine in yellow)

Hey Eugen! I have pretty long legs for 6' so it's no problem, my saddle height is 78.5cm from bb spindle center to top of saddle. I think I could even fit a 170mm post! Yes, I usually keep it in the low setting. I don't notice so much the head angle change, but the bb height change is noticable when climbing ledgy rocks or roots. I will sometimes switch to high if I am someplace with technical climbs. I love the yellow too! I miss having such a crazy bike.

Hi man, thanks for replying. I was asking about the setting because i figured that with a higher axle to crown height, the bb height is also higher. This way, you win both ways, having a slacker HA and a not so low bb height that you cannot climb tough features, both due to the higher travel of the fox 36.
