Yes, the road teams would have been leaving with gold plated bike boxes not cardboard ones
I'm really curious to see a shot of the bike bags and boxes contents getting checked on the way out of YVR. Hopefully the teams were spread out over enough different airlines and flights to manage that workload and not put too much stress on the screeners. The last thing we need is to leave a negative impression of bike travelers. Hard to imagine them having the foresight to increase staffing for the occasion. Over burdened and understaffed baggage handlers can effect flight scheduling too. I guess we'll hear about it when we fly home next weekend.
