Okay I have searched and nobody ever mentions hemorrhoids. So I will go first. Mine are internal. Missed riding in Prescott last year because of a flare up.
Why am I telling a bunch of strangers this? If you are passionate about riding I hope you never suffer from them. Keeps one from riding.
Mid June this year it happened again. Decided to see a real DR and put this behind for good. Doc said you need a colorectal surgeon. Surgeon does a banding on two 'rhoids. After 16 days 100% relief! Jumped on my bike and took a 30 minute easy ride- green & blue trails. Might have come back to that too soon.
Anyway, at my 6 wk follow up I told the doc things had gotten better then got worse. He banded two more. This time no relief.
Fortunately, mine aren't bleeding or anything like that. Feels like an insect bite. It's hard for me drive my car 30 minutes to work. Been taking ibuprofen & trying sitz bath 2-3 times a day.
Reaching out to my fellow riders looking for advice. Last thing I want is surgery for them. Heard it is nothing but horrendous pain for months.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Many others, like myself have suffered alone in complete denial & embarrassment for far too long, and if I had only allowed myself to be vulnerable, maybe I could have started this conversation that would of helped myself and others immeasurably sooner!
I find the messaging here hard to use, but whether you reply here or privately, I'd be happy to share my best resources and references that I have gathered and thank goodness - kept me on the saddle.
Oh why didn't I see this post before!
I had hemorrhoids for some unknown reason - perhaps because of the new environment. I got it when I lived in Kyrgyzstan for a couple of months and it took me a long time to recover my health. Of course, this affected my cycling trips, I had to forget about them until my recovery. Luckily, I didn't have any relapses.
Have it, such an unpleasant thing. It gets better and worse but never really goes away. Of course i talked to my doctor about that and he prescribed me couple of different medications. Will read about them first on Canadian pharmacy website and only after will decide if i want to start taking them. I have honestly nothing against doctors, but in the past had a situation when doctor prescribed me too much and some of that i didn't even need.
I had some bad ones, everytime I rode my dirt bike, mountain bike, or exercised hard I'd pee blood out my ass. Put up with them for 10 years and tried adding fiber to my diet, did the oil pills you put up your butt, yada yada. Finally had surgery to remove them in 2019. It was an awful week after the surgery, but man ever since it's been great! I still take fiber supplements on top of eating whole grains and lots of vegetables, but haven't bled out my ass since the surgery. If they're bothering you and effecting your life I'd recommend surgery to most.
Believe it or not, I've never really browsed this forum, sticking entirely to the Hub.
Anyway, when I used to do tile work about once a year I'd get a roid, the kind that's on the outside, like a lump on the edge of the butthole. Super annoying, but it usually went away after a few days using Preparation H. A while back I got one that wouldn't go away, so after a week of it I went to my regular doctor. He took a look, said, "Yep, that's a pretty good size roid," and then told me to use Epsom salts for it. Life-changing, to put it mildly.
If you don't want to sit in a tub to soak your butt using Epsom salts, do this: Mix a bunch of Epsom salts in very warm, almost hot, water. Put enough of the salts in the water so they barely dissolve. Then soak a wash cloth in the salt water, squeeze out only enough so it won't drip too much, fold the cloth, and wedge it between your cheeks. (Pro Tip: clean the area before doing this.... just so it's not so icky...) Hold the cloth against the affected area for about 5 minutes, applying moderate pressure. If the water in the cloth cools off, soak the cloth in the warm salt water again. Repeat once or twice more during the day. If your results are anything like mine, within a day you'll feel a noticeable improvement, and within 2 or 3 days the roid will be gone without a trace.
The doctor said the Epsom salts help break down the clotted blood that's creating the lump.
That sounds incredibly rough — dealing with that kind of pain and bleeding for years must’ve been exhausting. Really appreciate you sharing your experience honestly. It’s good to hear the surgery actually made a long-term difference for you, even if the recovery week was tough. A lot of people hesitate to take that step, so hearing a real outcome like yours can help them weigh their options better. Glad you’re doing well now.
get em fixed, rubber band method sux but works.
