I ride up cannock chase in the West Midlands and it is quite wet on the trails and is full of supper skippy cobble stones any idea what sort of tires I should run and it is mainly downhill

A softer compound tire will be your best bet. Slick wet rocks are tough, being smart with your braking will likely help, too.

Tires can only get you so far. I grew up in Southern California, so I feel a bit strange saying this to a Brit, but wet riding is all about balance and staying centered on the bike. Let the bike slip where the trail tells it to. And then try to flow down the trail on top of it. Oh, and some nice soft mud tires do help.

Having spent the best part of 3 years riding there, the trailstar Hans Dampf worked best for me. I tried a whole bunch of other tyres too.

Thank you EddyDave. That was much more directly useful than my comment. Still "Riding" means more than just pedaling.

Heh. about the only time I can be legitimately useful is if someone asks a Cannock chase tyre question!

It's a very strange riding surface there and it's not at all like riding in dirt.
Big Bird is right, you've gotta let the bike move about and float underneath you. Keep it pointing in the direction you want go and hope Wink

@xyian apparently Maxxis just added another acronym for 2.5 tires meant for wide rims called WT, so.... how does Minion DHR II 3C EXO TR WT sound? Will they fit in my Suntour DUROLUX TA RC2 20QLC2 DS 26?
