Downhill Beginner - Help please!!

So I thought I'd check out downhill a bit ... I've decided to pick up a second hand full sus and gradually build on it but I really know nothing about DH other than what I've seen in videos. I've ridden some singletrack on hardtails with small jumps and technical sections, but as far as proper downhill goes I have no experience at all. Any tips or useful beginners information would be great!
