Nice XC lid at a reasonable price point

Rating: Featured Member Review
The Good:

Has a quality feel to it, lots of vents, something a bit different than the regular Giro and Bell

The Bad:

Little bit heavier than some other helmets, the fit dial is not as user friendly as some of the other one hand dial systems

Overall Review:

I purchased this helmet a couple of weeks ago at a great deal. For the past several years I’ve been sticking primarily to Bell open face helmets but the deal was too good to pass up so I ordered the Amara helmet. The helmet is built really well, has a solid feel to it and in terms of quality it looks and feels comparable to Giro/Bell helmets.

In terms of venting the helmet has 17 vents and breathability is great on hot days or on those extra sweaty rides. All the straps and adjustments work well I did notice however that the rear dial that allows for the customized fit it not as user friendly as the one hand dial adjustments on Bell helmets. With the Amara you have to use both hands to make the adjustments and in many cases have to take the helmet off to ensure that each side of the adjustment dial is equal. With my previous bell helmet I was simply able to put the helmet on my head and use the dial adjuster and with one hand tighten the lid to my head. This isn’t a huge issue but just one of those areas where I liked the Bell helmet a bit better.

Another thing I found about this lid (and not necessarily a bad thing) is that this lid tends to fit a bit higher on my head, the helmet itself is a tad shallow meaning that it doesn’t come down as far as my previous bell helmet on my head. This isn’t a bad thing but I thought I would simply point it out.

In regards to styling this helmet looks really good and at the same time is a bit different and perhaps that a good thing as it has different graphics than the current offerings from Bell/Giro...etc. The helmet shape is very sleek and has a very XC racer look to it.

So overall I am happy with this lid, minus the small issue with the dial adjustment this helmet is durable, built really well and has excellent venting. This is a great XC/trail/all mountain helmet.
