Pivot Cycles announces the all new 2016 Mach 6, now available in an alloy version, in addition to the updated carbon frame. The new Mach 6 sees significant changes to the rear triangle and linkage, and now incorporates Boost spacing to provide increased frame stiffness, power transfer and more tire clearance. Both the alloy and carbon versions still utilize the tried and true dw-link suspension, but now incorporate the new Boost standard and updated linkage.

Why go alloy you might ask? Here's what Pivot had to say regarding that decision:

Pivot makes the best Enduro/Trail bike in the world, and now we are bringing the incredibly high standards of our Mach 6 flagship design to an aluminum frame. With the all-new Mach 6 Aluminum, we’ve met our carbon frame standards for stiffness, power transfer and perfectly dialed suspension performance, culminating in a bike that raises every rider’s ability to conquer aggressive, technical trails.
With input from Pivot’s roster of world class DH and Enduro athletes, we’ve dialed in every feature of our renowned design and set a new standard for the ultimate Enduro/Trail machine. The Mach 6 Aluminum devours singletrack – the 27.5” wheels, slack head angle, short chainstays and low bottom bracket height all add up to incredibly versatile and capable bike that redefines aluminum in the Enduro/Trail category.

With that said, lets check out the new aluminum Mach 6.

Alloy Meets Enduro

Pivot has been working on their all new "next generation variable wall thickness hydroforming technology" for the past three years allowing them to build complex shapes using alloy that were previously only possible with carbon. The new technology enables Pivot to vary the thickness of the alloy in specific areas, much like a carbon layup schedule, so they can beef up high-stress areas requiring more material while maintaining the bike's overall weight and still meet their strength and stiffness goals. The result? A more cost effective, yet reasonably light and stiff frame when compared to its carbon counterpart.

All New Linkage Design

Both the alloy and carbon Mach 6 see an updated linkage design in an effort to increase the bike's overall stiffness. The upper linkage sees an increase in width of 40%, which Pivot claims increases the stiffness by 150% when coupled with the new, larger bearings found at the frame//linkage interfaces. Another integral part of the bike's increase in stiffness can be attributed to the Boost spacing, which widens the rear spacing an additional 6mm from the previous 142mm spacing and accommodates for tires up to 2.4-inches in width.

dw-link™ And FOX Suspension

As we mentioned above, both the alloy and carbon versions on the Mach 6 feature the same linkage updates and utilize the proven dw-link suspension. Pivot specs the Mach 6 with a custom tuned FOX Kashima Float equipped with the new EVOL air sleeve out back and a 160mm FOX 36 fork up front. Here's what Pivot had to say regarding the suspension of the new Mach 6:

The Mach 6 Aluminum is spec’d with the 2016 Fox Factory Kashima with the new EVOL air sleeve, custom tuned specifically for Enduro and Trail riding. DPS stands for Dual Piston System – the shock features two separate sets of valving, similar to what you would find in Fox’s external reservoir Float X design, while the EVOL sleeve significantly reduces the force required to initiate travel, for the ultimate in small bump compliance and better bottom-out resistance. The Float DPS shock also features new settings and a design that allows for an incredibly plush feel with a wide range of damping control while also offering an extremely positive “firm” position for those long fire-road climbs. When combined with the dw-link’s® patented position-sensitive anti-squat, this system gives riders even better traction on steep climbs and over rough Trail, making the Mach 6 Aluminum a climbing machine with a nearly bottomless feel in even the most aggressive terrain.

Pro Details And Frame Features

The new alloy Mach 6 utilizes external full housing shift cable routing, which runs along the underside of the downtube and goes internal through the chainstay. Stealth dropper posts see internal routing in the seat tube before it join the rest of the party up the downtube.

For those still running a 2x drivetrain, Pivot employed a removable front derailleur mount which is compatible with Shimano's new side-swing front derailleur system. If you prefer a 1x setup, the derailleur mount is easily removed and designed in a way to leave almost no evidence of the un-needed hardware.

Multiple build kits are available, from SLX to XTR, with both SRAM and Shimano options.

2016 Pivot Mach 6 Carbon

As we mentioned previously, the new Mach 6 Carbon sees the same updates to the rear triangle and linkages as seen on the alloy version. The new bike is stiffer, utilizes Boost spacing and is 2x compatible via Pivot's removable front derailleur mount. But, what's also new to the carbon Mach 6 is the availability of a Shimano XTR Di2 build kit, in both 1x and 2x setups. Here's what Pivot had to say regarding the high-end electronic build:

When you start with a chassis that has already known as the “most versatile Enduro bike on the planet” and is touted as the bike to beat by the most respected mountain bike reviewers in the world, any improvements will be truly category-defining. Pivot carbon already features purposeful, clean composite design, with large cross sections for stiffness and the right combination of materials to produce a high value frame worthy of the name Pivot. With our exclusive hollow core internal molding process, we are able to create an incredibly durable frame with the highest levels of stiffness and strength. For the new Mach 6 Carbon, we’ve taken the next step and addressed the extreme weather and gearing demands of Enduro via the durability and innovation of the first fully electronic-integrated long-travel bike. The innovative Pivot Cable Port System is the key to this upgrade, developed in direct cooperation with Shimano – giving riders the ultimate in shifting accuracy via the incredible gear-selection intelligence of Di2 componentry. Whether you choose to go the traditional shifting route or opt for Shimano’s game changing system, all of your cables, housing, wires and batteries are neatly tucked away for the ultimate in weather and impact resistance, no matter what set up you choose, now or in the future.
