ODI Trek Satellite Racing, Report Race #5

Round #5 of the Fontana Winter series is in the books, and the ODI / TREK satellite team came away with another solid weekend. With temperatures near 90 degrees all weekend, it felt more like a summer race than winter! The entire team was in attendance, and it was good to all be back together again. The team has started the season off well, everyone has been improving with each race, and I look for big things from the guys this year!

Saturday as always was the Super D race and DH practice. The wind was howling pretty good all day, but not as bad as we've seen it before. The Super D had been shifted to a 1 run only format, and Jon Buckell was hungry for another podium. Buckell has been making steady progress this season, and is racing his way into shape. With podium finishes in the first 4 events, he was looking for the top spot! After a few windy practice runs on the Super D course, Buckell looked confident. Due to some registration mix ups, Buckell had to start behind the Pro Women. After passing 4 women, and shredding his run, he came out on top! 1st place Pro Men Super D, which counts as our 2nd win for the team this season. Congrats Jon!

The rest of the squad was practicing the DH course all day. All the riders now feel extra comfy on their ODI backed TREK Session DH bikes, and its showing! The course had some really dry berms, few choppy braking bumps, and a fair bit of pedaling. After a full day of practice, the team was ready to roll for Sunday.

Sunday was DH race day, and temps were near 90 degrees by race time! The course had been chewed up pretty good, and it was important to keep your line in the loose turns. Jon Buckell was up first for the team, and he chose to ride his trusty TREK Remedy for his run. It must have been a good choice, as he ripped a 4th place finish! Special shout out to Buckell on his race weekend - 1st in Super D, 4th in DH! Big House was up next and kept it smooth for a 9th place finish. Next up were the JR's. Jason Schroeder came through with another great run to take 2nd place, Charlie Harrison was consistent with an 8th, Matt Branney was 10th, and Logan Mulally unfortunately broke a chain right out of the start.

It's been an awesome start to this season, and the focus of our young squad has been impressive. Each rider learns something every race, and their confidence is growing with each pedal stroke!
