I have a giant trance I bought used/new.   It was never rode on trails before I bought it and was brand new condition 5 years ago when purchased.   I did a single chainring swap and its working ok but you can feel it's not happy in granny gear and I bought a xt crank arms from a guy and xt derailleur for my 1x10 setup for now but it didn't come with a chainring and I wanna make sure I buy the right size to make everything happy again that's why I was trying to figure out the year to determine everything.      Fc-m8120 170mm xt crank arms I have and I believe I have non boost set up but I'm not 100% sure tbh.

Bike is giant trance aluxx sl fluidform with all stock components other then tires grips seat basically and it's about to get the xt derailleur and crank as soon as I order the chainring needed to make everything jive well.  Frame serial number is gw307064 can anyone please tell me what year bike this is and what chainring to buy and offset for direct drive xt cranks please please please đŸ¥º

Forgot to mention I believe the bb is a press fit Shimano from what I can tell.  Mtb has come along way since I was really big into mtb when I was younger so idk half as much as I used too with all this new badass bike components.      So any halp is much appreciated.

The cranks are your problem most likely.  8120 cranks are for a 55mm chainline when that bike is going to most likely want a 52mm chainline.  So what is happening is those cranks are putting the chain right further out from center so it’s a more extreme angle to get to the larger cog in cassette.

You need the M8100 or honestly I would get M7100 SLX cranks much better band for the buck.  If you can tell is what year the bike is we can confirm it’s the chainline but I am 99.99 % sure that’s what it is.  You might be able to get larger offset ring,  I am not sure what the offset is on stock Shimano rings,  probably 3mm if that is the case you would need to find a 6mm offset ring to accommodate for the cranks.
Also make sure you have the right spacers on cranks for the size bb you have.

..I used to be a CTO for Giant Bicycles in Switzerland - it would help if you posted a picture of the bike. I can definitely help you in that regard.
