Single crown or Dual crown

Do you really need dual crown forks for DH or can a single crown fork do it all.

There are long enough travel single crown forks for downhill. But the big question is how many runs will they last before the crown starts to creak? Now that I think about it though, I've put my Rock Shox Lyric through a lot of abuse and it's not creaking yet.
