MTB trails in the Netherlands

Guys,

I need help from fellow Dutch mountain bikers.

I am relocating this spring to Rotterdam, as I am switching jobs and I am concerned about where I am going to ride and what kind of trails I am going to find there.

I know that there is zero to very little elevation in the Netherlands so technically it is impossible to find some proper enduro/downhill mtb tracks, but I after a quick research I made I found out there are plenty of mtb routes around the country.

Does anybody have any idea where are the best riding spots and if it is possible to progress as a rider without having to travel all the time to Germany/Belgium?

Thank you very much in advance.

No real enduro trails in Holland. A lot of fun singletracks though. You've got Dorst close to Breda, the Utrechtse Heuvelrug is nice, Kapucijnenberg above Tilburg. Those are the ones I did in your area which I found nice. But still: it's no enduro. Around Valkenburg is the only spot in Holland that has kind of nice steep and technical trails, but still no real altitude. If you wanna have some proper descents you'll have tot go to the Belgian Ardennes, or Aachen in Germany.

When my Dutchie friends are not down visiting me in the Alps they go The Belgian and French Ardennes for long weekends, and occasionally to Luxembourg. I believe that there is minor trail conflict issues in the Belgian Ardennes, Maybe Dodgems can provide more info. Trailforks is full of fun trails. To me it looks like BRitish woodland riding that I grew up on. I.e only 200-400metre of elevation but lots of fun singletrack built by bikers for bikers.

For slightly further away trips the Vosges/Alsace mountains can be reached in about 5 hours.

Otherwise, like any good Netherlander you will have to get used to long drives to access the goods in the Alps and the rest of Europe. Or buy an XC hardtail and pedal around the NL singletracks worrying about the weight of the sealant that is in your tyres.

In Belgium for a long time the trails were just tolerated by the community,
but due to Covid and the exponential rise of amount of bikers on the trails, (a lot of them not acquainted with the rules on the trails and bombing down them ignoring other bikers and pedestrians),
conflicts started to rise so government started to close em down, or started to verbalise bikers.
But now, it's calming down and there's a lot of dialogue going on. Also lots of the trails are becoming 'official' now.

You've got Spa, Bouillon, Remouchamps, Chaudfontaine (all of em on TF)...
The best spot for me in Belgium is Remouchamps, although a lot of good trails are closed at the moment...
The best spot for me close by is Les Hautes Rivieres, just across the border in France. About a 2 hour drive from Antwerp.

Bergschenhoek & Zoetermeer near Rotterdam are decent XC routes by Dutch standarts. Trails are super tame but HT, XC tires and creative lines can provide basic level of technicality.

For all the Dutch trails it's best to check www.mtbroutes.nl

Amerongen, Dorst, Rhenen, Kwintelooijen, Rheden & Lochem are very nice track, but's it's all XC-tracks and no real decent enduro/downhill. For that you need to be in Belgium (Spa, Les Hautes Rivieres) of Germany (Witten, Teutoburger Wald, Winterberg, Willingen).

So for nice enduro/downhill you need to travel 2.5/3 hours by car from Rotterdam.
