Royal 2016 Trail Socks

Socks are socks, right? I mean, I buy socks to top up my parts orders to get over the free shipping threshold - and it's usually the cheapest, or first pair that I like the look of when I type in 'socks'.

This held true until the planets aligned when one particular shopping basket needed topping up, and I hastily hit buy on what would unwittingly become the best pair of socks I ever owned - the Royal Trail socks.

Really, I think they're perfect. They're light - so light that when I soak my foot halfway through a long ride (happens a lot in New Zealand) the socks, and my feet, dry out by the end of the ride - inside my shoes! Every other pair of socks in my drawer will stay wet and make my feet look like prunes - rubbing off hard won calluses in the process. They look good - to me, anyway. I can take one pair of socks away with me, because I can wash them every day and they dry in a flash. They fit nicely.

The only negative I can think of is that they wore through the soles in one year. This could very well, however, be attributed to the fact that I didn't want to wear any other socks in that time, so they would have been worn four times per week - around 100kms of trail riding every week - for an entire year.

3,500kms out of a pair of socks is probably pretty good.
