How often do you bring your bike in for a service

Hello,

I was wondering how often people service their bikes especially bring the bikes into a shop to service them. 
for example every year or every 2000km 

And if u have one standard shop you bring your bike to or check where there is time available. 
also if u service your own bike I’m wondering what’s the reason behind that and why not bring it into a shop.

Also what the reasons for a service are of people for example. Do you do it to prevent more parts getting broken or are after more parts are worn out and the bike starts to malfunction.

I do my own service (except for dampers) because it's fun, fast and cheaper than paying a shop. I also like being (mostly) self-sufficient so if/when something does break I'm not waiting a week for my LBS to fix it.

I try to service my stuff before it breaks, which helps it last longer and perform better. I'm also super picky about my bike making noises and knowing how to service things means I can mess around until it's as quiet as I want it to be.
