First of all I'm new to the DH/MTB building side of things...I have a 05 Specialized FSR XC COMP and I'm looking to get rid of the front derailleur and switch to a single speed front. I want to get a new crankset, bottom-bracket, and chain ring as well. I was just wondering if someone could help me figure out what my options are or at least tell me all the components I'll need to complete this upgrade. I am running a 9 speed in the rear by the way.

Also if you have any other upgrade ideas for my bike please let me know, I'll take all the help I can get. All suggestions welcome, Please help!

My bike specs can be found here: http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/archive/2005/fsrxc/05fsrxccomp#s…

Thank you,
Alex

What tipe of terrain are you riding? I mean how many uphills/ how steep? If its mainly flat you could get away with a 34t chainring and 11-36 cassete.

I am curious on where you plan on riding? If you want a more dh build id go with a 34t or 36t. If you plan of riding more xc or all mountain if stick with 32 or 34. You are located in Iowa correct? is there good DH there?
