G'day everyone I'm new to the forum and Melbourne and was wondering if a few riders could give me their opinions on a few questions.

I'm looking at buying a dh bike to get into a bit of riding and racing. I used to ride and race a lot of motocross and bmx and dh would be a perfect combination of the two. I also have family that live around the alpine regions so places to ride is not an issue for me.

First, is it worth owning a dh bike around Melbourne or am I better at looking at an AM bike? Every time I have been into a shop I have been talked out of buying one and have been pointed towards an enduro bike.

Does anyone race an AM/enduro bike in dh around Melbourne and even the alpine regions? If so what is your steed? And what are your opinions of it?

Finally what would be a good beginner bike? A bike that would be easy to buy in Melbourne region?

Hi. If you decide to get a dh bike, you won't be able to ride ALL the trails around Melbourne. (I'm NOT saying you shouldn't buy a dh bike) if you get an enduro machine, you can ride any trail you want (150-160mm of travel). enduro bikes these days are VERY CAPABLE! this way you can unlock full potential in your bike, and you. Plus, It's better to start out riding with less suspension anyways. Having less travel will make you choose better lines, and focus more on technique. Basically make you a better rider. And about beginner bikes, maybe look at specialized enduro or trek slash. Giant Reign is a great bike to! But it's all up to you at the end! Good luck!
