I'm 23, probably going to be pretty sore/stiff when i'm old.
If the doctor you are seeing just wants to do surgery, I'd probably see a different doctor. That may depend on the injury though. Some need surgery, but many you can work around with time off and strength training.
I think the aches and pains last a little longer than in my 20's, but I just listen to my body and give things a little more time to settle down.
I know this is an old post but I'm sure injuries haven't seized to exist since the last posting in 2005 lol! It's 2018 late Spring and I'm recovering from ACL reconstruction with 5 months of recovery to go -wonk' wonk'. Being from Southern California the best riding weather is beginning its unfavorable transition into summer which sucks! While all my buddies ride in the picturesque mountains of the Angeles National Forrest and beyond I'm stuck pedaling a stationary bike in route to nowhere.
My injury was not bike related so mentally I'm still a ripper as far as I'm concerned, but my "A-game" in Football will forever be mentally compromising if I choose to go back to the gridiron, luckily my heart belongs to my bike and in the mountains so if my time with the pigskin is over I'm more accepting of that fact. So most of you have linked their recovery time to one's age and like many of you, I'm there with ya. I've severed my Achilles at 23, broken 5 ribs at 30 and now the knee at 35 but fortunately, I've recovered 100% from all those mishaps and none of them have come back to nag me -Yet... According to my doctor, I'm 3 weeks ahead of schedule and recovering rapidly which is obviosuly a good thing, I'm taking it as slow as they tell me and following a strict exercise regimen designed for getting me back on two wheels. None the less I won't fool myself into thinking I'm still a young buck made of rubber easy to bounce back after kissing dirt, my age has triggered an investment in safety gear vs go fast clinics although' those help to keep your skills sharp which eliminates increased chance of error. So how have you all made out since 2005? Any new injuries? Has anyone dumped the bike for mini golf or a pickup game of Checkers at the park? Any of you still going strong?
Wishing everyone a safe ride in the hills and may the trails be with you.
