Pants or Shorts for DH

Hey everyone. I am trying to decide whether to purchase pants or shorts for riding in. I see that almost all the guys I see racing are in pants. Is it because they are more comfy or offer more protection than shorts? But it looks like shorts are easier to move around in and it seems like they are more breathable. What should I get?

Because you generally have to drop trow to put on or take off pads, which may not be appropriate in some company, and I don't like the feeling of pants bunching up/ grabbing at the knees as you pedal or sit down. I generally run a standard chammy underneath and Dickies cut to just above the knee, so they cover just the top of the pads.

Okay cool. Thanks for the advice. Do you have any preference on what short to get? Ive been looking at these Royal Racing ones.

I already bought shorts. But i will try pants sometime.
