What bike to buy?

Im nw to mountain biking and i want a bike that i can do big drops and jumps on the trails.. what type of bike should i get? they are both good bikes for drops but the demo is more for contests and the status is more of a down hill/ free ride bike

Ya but i would go with the status, its like the new big hit and I don't know to much about the scott but it seems like a good bike

My advice to you is that you don't buy new, buy a lightly used bike from a couple years back. That way you can get a better bike that is a little less money. For instance, if you buy a 2010 Specialized Demo II then you will have better components. Or you could buy the 2011 Kona Operator or the operator supreme (depending on your price range). And you obviously need a helmet and I would suggest body armor, knee/shin pads, elbow pads. And don't only get a bike for "big drops" because like you said you are new to this and will probably not be too good (no offense) at riding big drops and jumps. The demo, like stated above, is more of a race bike and the status is more of a freeride/ park bike, the Operator however is an incredibly fast and feels like a park bike in the air and jump trails (there's my two cents).

i already have the gear because i use to race motocross, and i race bmx now, i think i wont be really bad at it bcause i have a lot of experience jumping bmx bikes and dirtbikes. (i know jumping mountian bikes will be a lot different that bmx)
