Vito Sport Atherton Experience Day 2013

The first Vito Sport Atherton Experience Day of the year took place at Revolution Bike Park on 1st August in North Wales. Bright sunny skies greeted us at Revolution Bike Park after a full day of rain the day before. We set up our flags and got the Vito Sport-X ready to show off. Around us, Muc Off set up their bike cleaning station, Silverline inflated their tent, and Atherton Racing set up a mini lounge alongside their Mercedes-Benz truck.

Most of the competition winners arrived bright and early and huddled together with tea and coffee in the Revolution shed. Excitement set in when Rachel, Gee, and Dan arrived. The winners and the riders hung out while Revolution got their trailers ready for uplift. The next few hours were spent riding in the sunshine, with only a few crashes to speak of.

A leisurely BBQ lunch was made by Susha and her mother-in-law where everyone got a chance to get to know each other. Claire Bennett enjoyed it: “Meeting the Athertons and chatting over a BBQ lunch was fantastic. As a female rider I have a lot of admiration and respect for what Rachel is doing for women’s mountain biking.”

Brand new GT Fury bikes were available for everyone to test out and the winners made the most of this unique opportunity. Sarah Staples said, “It was amazing to have a ride on the new GT Fury, the team were great setting up the bike just for me to have a ride.

Uplifts continued for the rest of the afternoon. Seth Richards was impressed with Revolution’s uplift service: “The uplift ran almost too smoothly. As soon as you had finished a run there would be a trailer waiting for you to load your bike onto. They seem to have a really good set up there.”

How did the winners feel about getting to ride with world champions? Pete Lownsborough said, “I felt like I was just out riding with my mates.” Simon Hardisty learned a lot: “As for Gee and Rachel, they were so friendly, helpful and generous with their advice and wealth of experience. Very down to earth and excellent ambassadors for the sport! Best bit for me was getting our riding critiqued by Rachel over certain sections of trail.”

Near the end of the day, some of the winners took advantage of Muc Off’s cleaning station and were able to go home with a clean bike! Gareth Griffiths took advantage of it: “It’s always a great day riding at Revolution Bike Park, but the combo of the excellent food, pro pits, bike wash, bike tests etc took it to the next level!”

Mark Prout summed up the day perfectly: “It was such a privilege to ride with some guys who are at the top of their sport – who else can say that they’ve done that? Can you get to play tennis with Andy Murray, can you play golf with Tiger Woods, can you drive a car with Lewis Hamilton? No, but we were able to ride with the best-of-the-best!”
