That K.I.S.S.  system still hurts my skull.  Why not use the Hopey Steering Damper that's fully adjustable or the Cane Creek Viscoset?
Far simpler, less messy & make a heck of a lot more sense to me.

What can it possibly do better than a Hopey other than make it easy to coast down a gravel road no handed?

It looks like it would be pretty simple to make something similar to try out and see what it does? I guess it would help in places like steady-state (ish, this is an mtb!) turns that you are leaning the bike over for a sustained period and the resistance could reduce tucking/over turning. 

A steering damper would be more use on high speed tracks where the bars are being deflected by the terrain. No reason you couldn't combine this with a hopey (apart from clearance) or similar product. The Viscoset isn't quite the same - I tested one for a while but it works on a combination of coloumb friction (ie stiction), and a tiny bit of viscous damping from the special grease between the plates, so it has a "digressive" effect. It is a simple solution for things like commuter bikes but not great for mountain bikes IMO

It would be cool if Canyon let us test the external version that Troy is using so I could toss it on a few bikes to see how it feels. I'm intrigued, but not enough to ever want my bike to have that many moving pieces stored inside my top tube/steerer tube.
