Giro Fixture MIPS Open Face Helmet
The Good

-Low rear coverage -Nice colors -Great fit even if it's one size fits all -Cheap price

The Bad

-Bulky side look

Overall Review
It’s sunny out and pretty warm, seems like a great day to go for a ride. After an hour-long drive, I unload my bike at the trailhead, set up everything, then look around for my helmet… I guess it’s still on the countertop at home. I call the local bike shop to see if they rent some and the owner says, "Come over I'll set you up with something!". I drive over there, he hands me this brand-new Giro Fixture and says we'll sort it out when you get back. I try it on, it fits well, and I head back for the trails. The fit is great, better than my forgotten-at-home POC that cost much more than this 50...

Giro Montaro MIPS Open Face Helmet
The Good

Comfortable, Style, Ventilation, Adjustability

The Bad

Visor Screws are cheap, Foam Padding Easily Saturated With Sweat

Overall Review
This is an awesome helmet, probably the best I've ever owned. The adjustment knob is easy to use and hasn't had any issues in the 2 years that I've used this helmet. It's extremely comfortable and the ventilation holes work great. The only downside is that the visor screws are made of plastic and have both come out (and lost) with normal use, no crashes. I was easily able to find black metal screws that fit perfectly. Also, I've had to replace the foam padding because it's pretty thin and gets easily saturated with sweat and eventually stops absorbing as well. It's easy and cheap to replace...

Giro Montaro MIPS Open Face Helmet
The Good

The Giro Montaro has good ventilation, simple adjustments and a fantastic fit. The pads soak up my waterfall of sweat better than any others and are easily wrung out mid ride keeping you from getting "rinsed" when you would least like to be. It looks like a mountain bike helmet and not something...

The Bad

The ventilation is good, but not stellar. Then again there isn't much that is going to feel like a nice AC unit cooling your pate in the steam room riding conditions of the deep south.

Overall Review
Helmet reviews are extraordinarily subjective and even asking to try on someone else's helmet gets similar aghast looks as asking to borrow their underwear. However, I did actually try on my friend's Montaro prior to buying one as no shops had them at the time. After getting over his schwette essence enveloping my noggin I was immediately impressed with the fit (size large) which I will characterize as being similar to a new trucker cap. Crisp, with no pressure points and easy to adjust to a pleasant state. The Montaro has a classic "Giro fit" and if you've been riding long enough you know...

Giro Chronicle MIPS Open Face Helmet
The Good

Fits good, breathes well, useful visor tilt adjust, MIPS WORKS.

The Bad

Cushions are good but don't absorb sweat quite as well as the Giro Montaro.

Overall Review
To sum it up quick, I'd gladly buy another one. This helmet is a solid half shell choice to keep your head safe. Take a gander at the pics below for some proof this helmet does its job. While out for a rip on the Wasatch Crest my pedal decided to give a rock a surprise high five. I was following a buddy a little to close down and didn't see a sneaky rock on the right hand side of the Mill D trail. In a split second I found myself laying on my side, bike under me, feet still on the pedals, and hands still gripping the bars. I snagged my pedal at 20-25mph which sent me into a full flat ground...

Giro Montaro MIPS Open Face Helmet
The Good

Comfortable fit and breathes well. The plastic framing that adjusts to fit the head works well. Once the adjustment fit is done, there’s minimal helmet movement when riding hard. After wearing this for a year i found another 3 position adjustment at the rear that determines how low the front of the...

The Bad

My only complaint is the tear adjustment dial. It’s a bit to small and I had to replace the entire head restraint plastic within a year. The dial should be a little larger. Especially with gloves on or when sweaty it makes it difficult to adjust without slipping.

Overall Review
For the money when bought in 2017, this was the best choice. Glad I bought this one with the MIPS. It’s a no brainer for fit and function. and I looked for quite sometime to find a helmet that fit this well.

Giro Phase Helmet
The Good

Abundant vents keep your head cool, good coverage on the back of the helmet.

The Bad

No adjustments on the visor.

Overall Review
The Giro Phase is a backup helmet for our house. I have a more enduro-esque helmet that is my primary lid - which cost nearly three times the sale price of this helmet. Keeping that in perspective... this Giro Phase is one fantastic helmet for the price! It is extremely well ventilated with 27 vents in all the right positions. My head can actually feel cold from the evaporative effect on downhill sections. The Roc-loc 5 retention works great and the helmet seems to properly fit most head shapes. This is actually a low profile fitting design and it sits lower on your head than other designs...
