Crankbrothers Pica+ Tool
The Good

High grade bits, Awesome indexing feature that hold tools in place, Everything you would ever need in a multi-tool/

The Bad

Can rust if left in water. Kinda pricey

Overall Review
I've been a bicycle technician at shops for over 6 years now. This being the case I'm pretty darn particular on the tools I use. This is true while in the shop as well as out on the trail. I've had a ton of multi-tools throughout the years but the Crank Brothers Pica family are by far the best I've ever owned. Crank Brothers as a company is no stranger to providing quality on-the-go accessories and their multi-tools are no exception. The most mass produced tool out on the trail, I would argue, is the Crank Brothers M-Series. I'm willing to bet that everyone here either has owned one of knows...

Crankbrothers Mallet DH Clipless Pedals
The Good

Durable, Strong Spindles, Nice Platform, Low Maintenance, 2 Year Warranty

The Bad

None I Came Across

Overall Review
I decided to get into clipless again when I was doing quite a few local DH races to help in the gnar we have here on the East Coast. I decided to go with these pedals as they had some good initial reviews and all else failed Crank Brothers provided these with a two year warranty. I paired them up with some 510 shoes. I used them throughout a solid season of DH racing and general rides. They have gone through dry and very muddy weather and they have not been taken apart once. They still spin freely and smooth. If I could change one thing, it would only be to have a slightly stiffer spring to...

Crankbrothers Mallet DH Clipless Pedals
The Good

Look good and worked well for 12 weeks

The Bad

Fell apart after 12 weeks - approx 36hrs only

Overall Review
Wow! got these pedals 12 weeks ago and one fell off. Yep, bearing crapped itself and the pedal actually fell off. I'm sure it would have been a pleasant experience if I was in mid flight, but luckily I was on the flat telling my mates how great they were.... What a joke these are and we all had to laugh... Top price, worst quality part I have bought in 15 years. Took back to shop who said water damaged!! What, so you can't ride with these if it's wet? Pedals had done less than 40hrs and although used in wet conditions, never was it raining or the pedals submerged... Look cool but anyone who...

Crankbrothers Candy 2 Clipless Pedals
The Good

Reasonable weight, Nice finish, Float is good and consistent

The Bad

Almost Impossible to get into.

Overall Review
First off let me say that I am a long time clipless pedal user. I cut my teeth using possibly the worst pedal ever made the Onza HX back in 94. I have used nearly every pedal design made from Shimano, Ritchey, welgo, and TIME. I have always liked the TIME pedal system as it is virtually unaffected by whatever weather or conditions are present. I had a pair of egg beaters that had been sitting on my road bike for a number of years and when my favorite pair of 15 year old TIME's met their death by being smashed on one rock too many, I decided to try them out on my MTB. I was surprised at how...

Crankbrothers Iodine 3 2013 Wheelset
The Good

Spiffy looking Fairly lightweight Easy spoke replacement

The Bad

Poor warranty claim process for defective product

Overall Review
Didn't get to test these out on more than one ride because they were defective, so I can't say a lot about how the non-defective ones perform. For the pair I received, the rear hub made a loud popping sound any time a new set of pawls was engaged. The three pawls did not engage the hubs teeth at the same time as they were supposed to. This will happen occasionally for any good company. That's why they have warranty policies, to maintain their reputation and happy customers. Unfortunately, their warranty policy requires you to send the product back at your own cost (~$30 for a wheel). In my...

Crankbrothers M17 Multi-Tool
The Good

This bad boy fits everything on all of my bikes:) trail, single speed, commuter, jump, and friends bikes! CrankBrothers make a few models with fewer and more tools, depending on what your needs are.

The Bad

Just a little extra weight to carry along.

Overall Review
It has saved more than a handful of rides and that along makes it invaluable. Nothing is worse than finally getting out on the trail and few miles later you or one of your buddies is broke down and the fun stops and the sweating begins. It is almost like having a whole bike shop of tools right under the seat. I have this exact one other than my 17 has some ano-gold trim. The chain tool functions properly and you can get some good torque on it to pop those stubborn links and the spoke wrench works like a charm and isn't unmanageable considering the rest of the tool is connected. This little...

Crankbrothers Iodine 2 Wheelset
The Good

Light Weight, Strong Rim, Easy Tubeless setup, One off design

The Bad

Takes a proprietary spoke and nipple combo that will need to be sourced from a direct CB dealer or from CB themselves. On the plus side, they are all the same length so keeping extras is simple. Will true and tighten with universal spoke wrench (PT Black)

Overall Review
There is well known idea within the mountain biking community that Crank Brothers makes parts for looks and not function. The Iodine wheels certainly take stunning looks and design to a level that no other wheel manufacturer has but has been plagued with bad reviews about faulty hub construction. The 2013 batch that I am riding seems to have addressed those issues and according to Crank Brothers, the 2013 wheel sets are a step forward and construction and durability. With a handful of rides into the season, I am happy to report that my Iodine 2 wheel set have performed without flaws and beat...

Review by Ian Collins // Photos by Fred Robinson and Ian Collins When it comes to wheels we all know that Crank Brothers have had a big hole to crawl out of, and they are the first to admit it. When they tried to reinvent the wheel a few years ago and introduced a radically different proprietary wheelset, things didn't really go as planned. The first iterations had some serious issues with the internal workings of the hubs, and the initial implementation of the unorthodox spoke design wasn't quite right. Crank Brothers dealt with the hiccups and the criticism, but rather than abandon hope they...

Crankbrothers Power Pump Pro
The Good

Compact, light, easy to use gauge

The Bad

Not much air volume. Takes forever to pump high volume mountain bike tires.

Overall Review
Although compact and beautifully made, the Power Pump Pro is more fashion than function. The lack of air volume requires a lot of effort to pump up high volume mountain bike tires. Look elsewhere if you are flat prone.

by Mihai Moga Mountain bike equipment is currently evolving at an unbelievable pace. In the last few years, featherweight full suspension frames have appeared and proven themselves to be far tougher and hardier than their much heavier alloy predecessors. Suspension designs have become incredibly efficient and reliable. Bike weights have plummeted and durability has increased in almost every area of the bike. However, this evolution has come at a price, namely, the price. If you try just a bit, you can now spend more on an all mountain trail bike than on a brand new motocross bike. The Crank...

Overall Review
by Noah Sears It's no secret that Crank Brothers products have a reputation for emphasizing style over longevity, so when the new Mallet DH/Race pedals arrived in the mail I was excited yet skeptical. They looked great, but would they perform? The Mallet DH/Race pedals debuted early this year to much fanfare, and were seen throughout the 2012 season on a number of World Cup race bikes. The original Mallets built a legion of followers, but each generation since has been less and less heralded. In their most recent variant Crank Brothers utilized a half polycarbonate two-piece design and a much...

Crankbrothers Mallet 3 Clipless Pedals

The Bad

Traction pins and engagement

Overall Review
This is my first attempt at riding clipless and I traded in my brother's old pedals for a set of these thru the deal Crank Bros was doing at the time - trade in any clipless pedal and get any set of their high end pedals for half price. I enjoy being clipped in for some aspects of riding and I can feel that they make pedaling a bit easier on the rougher sections where a foot would be hard to keep on platform pedals. I love the size of these with a full platform as they make clipping in easy. I found that sometimes I don't feel all the way clipped in and I have to unclip and re-clip to make...

Crankbrothers Iodine 11 Handlebar
The Good

-Comfortable -Great Vibration Dampening -Durable -Perfect amount of rise for XC/FR

The Bad

I guess should come in different lengths to support different styles of riding

Overall Review
I ran these on my '08 Turner Sultan in an FSA alloy stem and they worked great for harder XC and freeride. Awesome vibration dampening, good rise, had no complaints. I like twitchy bars so the 680 width was awesome. Stable, comfortable bars. Pretty durable too. They did crack on a major crash, but to be fair I am 6'7" and 190 lbs, so I have no business with carbon anyways. Took an impact of 35 mph directly on the outermost left grip to produce a hairline crack. Wish I could say the same for me (double snapped collarbone, 2 broken vertebrae, collapsed lung). I would recommend these as budget...

Crankbrothers Mallet 2 Clipless Pedal
The Good

Good quality, Solid platform, grip pins, reliable clip-in/out great mud-shedding

The Bad

Platform is fairly pointless unless you have shoes with a hole in the sole so you don't ride on the retainer springs.

Overall Review
I have been mountain biking for 6 years, riding mostly XC/Trail and had never second guessed my choice of platform pedals... until I took a vacation to Colorado, rented a Yeti 575, and got stuck on rental platforms for two days of epic Front Range, Rocky Mountain riding. First off, the low rating is not for quality but purely for design issues. I bought these pedals and a pair of 510 Maltese Falcons for two reasons: 1: I use my bike for many things and don't want to only be able to ride it with one pair of shoes. 2: When I use the clipless shoes I don't want to have difficulty walking when off...
