The new Giro Xar trail helmet, spawned from the proven Giro Xen, has finally come to market. Vital MTB spent some time at the Giro facilities in Scotts Valley, California to meet the people and see the processes behind the most comfortable trail helmet I've ever ridden. After the tour, the Giro boys slay some speedy, slim Santa Cruz singletrack...ahhh, the life of a Giro employee living without the hassles of snow.

I Love My Xar
I've been using the Xar for a couple of months now and don't know how I'll ever want to put a different trail helmet on my head again. It's extremely lightweight with great adjustability via the Roc Loc 5 system. I've become so spoiled, that I'll loosen the RocLoc for slow climbs to keep me cool, then give it a twist before the descents to snug it up.

If you're in the market for a new trail lid, I recommend the Giro Xar.

My personal Xar. Along with the fit, I'm a fan of the color and graphics.Having simple, but effective adjustments is the key to a great-fitting helmet and the Roc Loc 5 is something I couldn't live without now. It not only adjusts the lateral security, but it moves up and down too, making the fit extremely custom to your head.

Joe_Graney, I'd ride that bike no matter who made it or where it came from. By far my favorite bike ever. Nice work on that thing.

Nice looking helmet. I think the Xen looks smoother though, more of a timeless design. The Xar looks too much like a roadie helmet, and the big X on the back is a little too e-X-t-r-e-m-e. But what do I know? I'll re-up with a new Xen this year. Sweet lunch break trail session!!

Just got my first look at a Xar a couple days ago. It's a nice piece, and logical evolution of the Xen. (My favorite helmet.)

thanks! the helmets should be flowing to dealers now. best thing you can do is get in touch with your local giro dealer. click that link to get to the Xar microsite, which has all the info you need.

the little foam "eggs" are cool and the hand-shaped aspect was neat to see. i asked why they were so small and was told that it's easier and takes less material. there's no reason to make a full-size egg prototype...makes total sense.

Love the behind the scenes look at how helmet concepts become reality. The mini models are pretty cool.

Will the Xar be a dealers soon? Or is it already? I would like to check one out in person.
