First Look: Teva's Pivot All-Mountain Clipless Shoe 4

After multiple revisions, countless hours on the bike, and who knows how many coffee-fueled design meetings, the Teva Pivot clipless shoes are officially ready to roll.

We caught our first glimpse of the shoe at Eurobike last year while still in a prototype stage. Since then, they've been refined in a number of ways, and it's time to show you guys the goods. The shoes feature some super clever features, many of which you can't see from the outside. Take a few minutes to look them over in this product intro vid:

Not bad for the first all-mountain clipless mountain bike shoe from Teva, right? We really dig some of the hidden features, like the internally mounted cleat hardware (this is genius by the way - why didn't someone think of that before?!).

Teva Pivot Spec Highlights

  • Lightweight - possibly the lightest skate style clipless shoe to date
  • Comfortable and supportive through the full pedaling motion
  • Cleat attachment is compatible with all major 2-bolt attachment systems
  • Cleat is internally adjustable through the sole from above to protect the hardware
  • Spider365 Rubber sole
  • PedalLINK Clipless outsole for all-mountain riding
  • Composite midsole plate for pedaling efficiency and walkability
  • Hook and loop strap to keep your laces out of the chain
  • Closed cell foam to avoid water absorption
  • Looks terrible with spandex

Chatting with Eric Porter, who helped develop the shoe alongside Jeff Lenosky and the Teva team, we learned that it was a ground up design. They didn't just take their already successful flat pedal shoe, the Links, make it stiffer and carve out a few slots for the cleats. They took their time and did it right. If you're keen to learn how they did it, be sure to catch this video with Jeff Lenosky and Teva Product Guru Chris Hillyer as they chat about the development of the shoe and some of the finer details. It's a good watch.

The shoes are available now at a price tag of $150. Hit up www.teva.com, and be sure to stay tuned to Vital for an in-depth review of the Pivot in the coming months. Our first impressions are very, very good. It's clear that the Teva crew did their homework.
