First Look: Q36R Quick Release System for FOX 36 Forks 15
Love your FOX 36 fork, but tired of those 5 bolts standing in the way of you and quick removal of your front wheel? Colorado-based bike shop and general suspension tuners The Flow Zone have developed a product that turns the factory-supplied pinch bolt system into a quick release system instead. It uses the original axle, to which it adds a QR-style lever, while replacing the standard pinch bolts with longer bolts and QR skewers.
Q36R Highlights
- Custom CNC’d from 7075 T6 and 6061 T6 Aluminum
- Engineered, prototyped and tested in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado
- Tool-free wheel removal
- Works with both 15mm and 20mm FOX factory axles
- Simple installation process (how-to video below)
- Adjustable preload lever position
- Quick release lever bolts can be torqued in the closed position to match factory set-up (retains the axle clamp strength of the factory bolt-on with quick release ease-of-use)
- MSRP: $89 USD
Note that the system is designed to replicate the clamping force provided by the factory pinch bolt system (when torqued to spec), so there should be no performance impact beyond the 99-gram weight penalty incurred by fitting this upgrade.
Check out the how-to-install video below for a glimpse of the Q36R in action, and head over to www.mavericksuspension.com for more information.

Just added this little kit to my girlfriend's Ibis. Right away we appreciate being able to pop the wheel on/off in seconds without tools. She's not the most comfortable spinning wrenches, and when transporting bikes to trails multiple times a week, it's already clear how much nicer this is than fiddling with tools while shivering in the rain, hoping not to strip something or get the torque wrong.
Thanks Team J! We have had great success with this product for all those reasons. We are now in our third production run and still selling very well, due in part that Fox is smart enough to have a true 20mm bolt style axle still available.
I've been traveling with this bike through airports, in and out of rental cars and making slight repairs, this has been a lifesaver.
This is a well made highly functional piece of gear. It makes daily wheel changes quick and easy.
You get the rigidity of a 5 bolt system with the ease-of-use of a QR. A big upgrade for a much loved piece for equipment. Worth every penny for me.
Beautifully made bit of kit which has transformed the everyday usability of the fork, making transport to and from bike parks a cinch. In my opinion, worth the outlay.
$89 US$ ($110 CDN) to save to 30 seconds... should be called the "Q36R Enduro".
You only need it if you are so heavy your bike can't sustain you and the extra tools.
It voids the warranty.
89 bones?!
it's useful..
That is a CDI Products torque wrench.
We totally understand using the stock pinch system, this is just an alternative for adding convenience to a great product.
This will not void the warranty anymore than changing to Push seals!
The system uses a brass cam, not the Magnesium housing of the older Fox36, so no Sreeech! While it does have some "body" to the lever, it can take a hit and the levers are more hidden than they appear.
Long live 20mm!
What brand/model was that torque wrench?
not seen a new style 36 myself but surely there must be a way to somewhat duplicate the original QR solution...
QR20 lives!
Not feeling it.
This is what Fox had a few generations back. More stuff to hit rocks on, levers always get crap in the cam and make horrible noises when you close them. Tend to seize shut and you end up needing a tool just to open the damn QR.
I am more than happy with the 36 as it sits now.
KISS- Keep It Simple, Stoopid!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but surely this will void the warranty.
