#hijinx - Jacob Gibbins / EWS / Squids
Fabien simply did not enjoy Stage 1 today. He feels it doesn't have a place in EWS. Fully maxed-out physically led to some mistakes on the tech bits lower down. - Sven Martin
A stage win for Fabien on Stage 2 which was a mix of flat-out singletrack and super-tech switchbacks. His result keeps him in the Top 5 after a slower start on the pedally first stage. - Duncan Philpott
Battling for an overall title at the young age of 20 is a big ask! Richie's keeping it rubber-side-down and inside the Top 10. - Duncan Philpott
After a dismal 40th on the first stage, Yoann Barelli had a 2nd and 4th place on the following two stages to try and save that plate number for this year. - Duncan Philpott
Adopted Vital Media squids, old enough to be some of your dads but still forever young. Steve and Dean and some of their days stories. #foreveryoung - Sven Martin
Chris Johnston on the sweet ending of Stage 1 (which used to be Stage 2 until the cancellation of the original Stage 1). A good few racers liked this stage and thrived on it, while others did not. - Sven Martin
A track-side surprise, the rock I was using as a handhold gave way and unleashed this little fella. Thankfully we witnessed more real scorpions than riders scorpion-ing for once. - Duncan Philpott
Sitting in 3rd overall, Ines Thoma is set for her best result this season! - Duncan Philpott
It was incredibly unfortunate that Isabeau Courdurier had a mechanical on the most physical stage. She pushed really hard to make up time over the rest of the day and to quote Sarah Leishman, "Gave a lesson on how to ride that shit," when racing the final gnarly stage of the day. - Duncan Philpott
Marco Osborne looking like only he can, semi-buck wild. Look at the crowd. Look at the time. 16th today. - Sven Martin
Richie and Jared. Both potential winners tomorrow. It's going to be weird seeing them on different teams next year. - Sven Martin
It's awesome to be racing so close to the city. Masses of fans cheer on Alex Cure as he rounds out the Top 10, dialed through these switchbacks. - Duncan Philpott
One of the best and funniest stories to come out of Finale EWS happened to Mary Dishman, (second from left )Team Juliana SRAM soignier. Have a listen. - Sven Martin
Waking up to this sends a mixed message but summed up the day well. - Sven Martin
The crowd lined the final stage of Day 1 pretty much all the way to the bottom! It's great to see Damien Oton back inside the Top 10 after his injury. - Duncan Philpott
Anka pumping and flowing on the bottom of Stage 1 today. - Sven Martin
Martin Maes suffered, losing a lot of time on Stage 1...too much I think for a podium tomorrow. An imbalance of time lost and potential time to gain affected a few people on this stage. - Sven Martin
Pauline Diefenthaler out of the forest of Stage 2 and about to drop the final steep switchbacks to Noli. - Sven Martin
Anneke 4th today and maybe enough time and places between her and Isabeau to claim a spot on the podium in the overall. But tomorrow still awaits. - Sven Martin
Tracy Moseley didn't get the big lead she had hoped out of Stage 1...suffering from lack of power she said. She had to hang it out a little more on the next two stages. Stage 2. - Sven Martin
Frank (FBM) sitting in 3rd after a great day of racing. The crowds that came out were amazing and were not disappointed with the action. - Sven Martin
Marzocchi still lives and works into the night here in Italy. - Duncan Philpott
Nico hovering above the gnar keeping his hands protected with bark busters. #frenchlines. - Sven Martin
Yes Jerome! Just yes! - Sven Martin
Fresh kit for Finale and Nico Lau's ramping things up for the end of the season. He only needs to knock 3-seconds off his overall standing time to make it onto the three-man podium! - Duncan Philpott
It was dark in the woods first thing under the overcast sky. The man behind Vital RAW Joe Bowman got his pro racing career underway. "Riding bikes beats filming," he said. - Duncan Philpott
Bryan Regnier low and focused towards the end of Stage 4 today. A consistent day saw him finish in 17th. -John BB Parkin
Some say an E-bike was necessary for the pedally Stage 1. Chris Ball just enjoyed overtaking the Elite Men's field on all the climbs during his course sweep duty. - Duncan Philpott

Description

The first day of racing at the last Enduro World Series started with a modified schedule. The original Stage 1 was canceled due to flooding at the finish line, so the new Stage 1 was originally Stage 2, which has proven to be quite controversial. The stage is pedally with a short, steep decent at the end. Regardless of loving it or hating it, Jared Graves and Tracy Moseley took top spots by relatively slim margins with one day of racing left. Sven and Duncan report with the action as they dodge scorpions and e-bikes.

Duncan's Stage Variance Notes

  • 1st through 5th place time gap on the pedally Stage 1 (formerly known as Stage 2) was 12 seconds.
  • 1st through 4th place time gap on the tech Stage 3 was only 1.2 seconds.
  • Stage 1 is swaying the results big time. Those who did well on Stage 1 held their place in the overall standing. Losers: Yoann barelli. Winners: Jerome Clementz.
