Intro Text

The end of the 2021 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup season concludes dramatically in Snowshoe, West Virginia.

A cruel twist of fate for Pompon, an unexpected ending for Vali - that's racing, and that's sport. Congrats to Vali on a great first season in Elite, congrats to Pompon for another year at the top, and congrats to all the women who made racing so exciting to watch this year!
That moment when you realize you just won the overall.
Super Bruni always shows up when it really matters. Knowing that pressure helps him ride at his best, Loic did everything he could to qualify in first place and make sure he'd be the last rider down the hill in the final. Mission accomplished, job done!
Green! Loic delivered a run for the ages, fast but in complete control. A masterclass.
It's not whether you get knocked down, it whether you get up. Loris couldn't put it together today, but as we look towards 2022 he'll be back even faster and ready to challenge for the win at every race again.
Major shout-out to Thibaut Daprela who injured himself in the very last qualifying session of the season and was unable to defend his lead in the overall, opening the door for Loic Bruni to do the deed for the second time in his career. We can't wait to see what the future has in store for this, and all the other, fast Frenchies.
Myriam Nicole loved the Snowshoe crowds and the track, and we have no doubt she'll be back here next year with fire in her eyes and an even stronger will to win. Today was a tough pill to swallow for sure, but Myriam is a true champ - win or lose, always a class act.
Sick Mick and his signature sui. It's been an emotional week for Mick, and saying good bye to World Cup racing did not come easy. We were tearing up with him!
Tracey Hannah taking a break from her Red Bull duties to wait for brother Mick at the finish line. As one chapter closes, the other one is still being written, and we're stoked that Red Bull have given us the opportunity to enjoy Tracey's insights as a commentator.
Most of the riders signed Mick's jersey - we imagine it'll have pride of place in the trophy room back home!
Emilie Siegenthaler also raced her last World Cup here in Snowshoe, deciding to call it good after a 13-year career that included victories in the iXS cup, Swiss Champs and regular visits to the World Cup and Crankworx podiums.
'MERICA! Say what you will, there's no other place quite like it. We're pumped about the World Cup coming back here again next year!
Nina Hoffman showing her love and appreciation for the US crowds - she was red flagged and given a re-run, but at least she got to enjoy the fans along the track one more time.
Luca Shaw brought it home in 5th place, despite riding with a fractured bone in his wrist. Back on the box after a 3-year podium drought is a great way to end the season and light a fresh fire for 2022!
Jackson Goldstone wore his fresh rainbow jersey with pride - it goes pretty well with that new overall World Cup title too! One thing is for sure, you have not seen the last of this Canadian junior phenom.
In the Junior Women's category, Izabeka Yankova won the last three World Cups, the overall World Cup title, and World Champs. Not too shabby either!
How good is it to have Amaury Pierron at the races again? He may not be back to peak fitness yet, but the speed is there and so is the flair. 4th today, and ready for 2022 you can be sure!
Mr. Consistent with another 2nd place finish. Troy has tasted that top step again though this year, and you can bet that hasn't done more than whet his appetite...
#USDH charger Dak Norton didn't get the run he wanted, but the crowd was behind him 110% and he's taking that energy back home to come back stronger in 2022.
Double-flat Dak. Let's hope that nickname doesn't stick!
Bernard Kerr with a sui for Mick Hannah. BK's run didn't go to plan but he was looking on it - expect more fireworks from the 3-time Red Bull Hardline winner next year!
Tahnee Seagrave has been battling this year to get back up to speed after her latest major injury, she's got an offseason to look forward to now and we've no doubt she'll be back in 2022, ready to challenge for more wins.
Finn shoulder tackled a tree, never a good idea. Finn is always knocking on the door, but needs to put more runs together to really make a charge for that top-10 (he finished the season in 14th place overall).
Never a dull moment with Benoit Coulanges on track! It didn't click for the Dorval Commencal rider today, but that tricolor sleeve is there to remind you that he's right in the mix as part of the French armada and can take down a race at any moment.
From one fast Frenchy to the next - Marine Cabirou looked every bit like the rider who took home the overall in 2020, riding loose and charging hard. 0.2 off the win today and she'll be fired up for more next year!
Camille Balanche stood on every World Cup podium this year, an amazing season and testament to her consistency.
Healing vibes to Jess Blewitt who took a horrific crash in a rhythm jump section. We do not know for a fact how she's doing at this time, but reports talk about fractures to femur, wrist, and ribs as well as 2 cracked vertebrae - none of which except for the femur will require surgery. We here at Vital wish her a full and speedy recovery!
OK so not eeeeverybody was fully into the racing...football is football!
Take me hoooome, country roads....
Andrew Driscoll - top Junior Men US finisher bringing it home in 12th.
Brook Macdonald signing off on an incredible season that has seen him back in contention after returning to racing following his 2019 back injury. Brook has really put on a show for us this season, we just wish he'd stop crashing!
Angel Suarez with a career-best 3rd place after throwing down an incredible run with a lower section that got the better of all but two riders. We're happy to see Angel finally riding healthy and delivering on his true potential!
What could have been. Winner of race #1 Reece Wilson was on another flyer and in contention for the win at the splits before a dropped chain put an end to his efforts. Sad way to end it but it's just a rain check for sure!
Dante Silva taking home 13th place for #USDH with a great run.
Even the Coneheads were out to watch!
Winning races and titles is one thing, but Vali also knows that a little extra sauce gets you another shot in the slide show.
Throwing whips can also get you in the slide show. Ronan Dunne demonstrates.
Wyn Masters knows a thing or two about what it takes to catch the photographers' eyes as well.
Dakotah's fans went on a poster spree. Well why not eh.
We don't know who you are but we salute you buddy!
Jordan Williams did the Snowshoe double but it was not enough to stop Jackson Goldstone from taking home the overall. We look forward to more battles between those two next year!
The kids are alright. Junior Men's overall podium with Jackson Goldstone, Jordan Williams and Pau Menoyo.
When life gives you #13, you make lemonade and run it upside down for good luck. Anna Newkirk did better than her plate and brought home a 10th place as the top US finisher in Elite Women.
One last bike check. We'll miss Mick, but he has promised to stay active in the industry and we're sure we haven't seen the last of him...
What. Just. Happened. Vali doing a great impression of every person watching the race when Myriam went down in a flat corner.
Uncle, is that you?
Flying the flag.
Snowshoe brings out the shapes. Matthew Sterling slithering his way into the slide show.
Does World Cup DH have the best fans? We're biased of course, but we're gonna say yes.
20+ years later, Shaun Palmer's legacy lives on.
From one ex team mate to another, "don't worry Loris, your day will come..."
Danny Hart charged the track as always, but this time he landed just off the podium in 6th place.
Yankova yanking hard. There are not enough women racing in the junior category, but those that do race, they send.
After a dominant start to his junior racing campaign in 2020, the YT Mob's young gun Oisin O'Callaghan has not had the results he wanted in 2021. 3rd place here at the last race will re-light that fire!
Bittersweet ending for Commencal Muc-Off, losing their grip on the individual titles over the last two races, but coming away with the overall team win. With so many teams on their bikes and a fantastic racing program to really bring out the potential of their riders, you can be sure they'll be right back in the mix in 2022!
What a season, and what a way to end it. Thanks to all the racers, teams, partners and organizers for putting on such a great show, thanks to our tireless photographers for bringing us along on the journey, and last but not least - thanks to you, the fans of mountain biking, for sharing your passion with us and letting us share ours. Peace out World Cup 2021.
