Intro Text

We're pretty sure the dust hasn't actually settled in the arid mountain landscape of Lo Barnechea, Chile, after the first round of the 2018 Enduro World Series. Sam Hill and Cecile Ravanel continued their winning ways after day one and sealed first place spots after the remaining three stages, while Martin Maes and Isabeau Courdurier snagged second-place finishes with fast-but-focused racing. Katy Winton earned a women's bronze and Robin Vallner took his first-ever podium in the men's class.

Sven Martin delivers the photos once again and race interviews that truly get into the hearts and minds of the competitors. Sam Hill's interview should have you in stitches (or in our case, ulcers). THANK YOU, SVEN!!!

A flat high up on stage four saw Cecile Ravanel lose 49 seconds to Isabeau Courdurier. She raced a large part of the stage with a rear flat salvaging the stage, and with it the race. After an hour of timed racing, every second mattered. -Sven Martin
Is Sam the greatest MTB racer and ball-buster in history? Sam Hill with three seconds and three firsts. His strongest showing by stage results at any EWS thus far in his career. He put the biggest margin on the shortest stage (stage five here) which is just baffling. -Sven Martin
Sam Hill sailing to the finish above some of the friendliest and most appreciative fans I've ever met. -Sven Martin
Sam Hill saw Adrien Dailly flat on stage four right before he dropped in. Knowing he could take it a little easier, he rode down to a conservative second place finish on the stage. -Sven Martin
We've been fans of Sam Hill since his first win at Junior World Champs in Vail. We are stoked he is a fan of us too (even if he scared the shit out of us with that audio clip). -Sven Martin
Martin Maes with the win on stage four, 11 seconds quicker than Sam Hill. A more mature Martin says he has his sights set on the overall this year and he reckons he is riding a lot smoother and more conservatively. I can't really agree with that based on what I saw. -Sven Martin
Isabeau winning on stage 4. She's racing and running her own team this year to boot. -Sven Martin
Robin Wallner rode a great race and was ecstatic to take his first podium after being so very close numerous times before. Well-deserved thanks to some smooth riding! -Sven Martin
A well-deserved beer for Katy Winton starting the year where she left off with a third place. -Sven Martin
The men were reserved at the podium. The women were bottoms up! -Sven Martin
Jesse Melamed was sitting in third going into the final stage when he flatted and lost fifty seconds and the chance of a podium at this opening round. He's made it clear that he's a contender anywhere. -Sven Martin
Marco Osborne down with his best EWS result to date. Eighth overall. Seriously, do his wheels look a little big? -Sven Martin
Shawn Neer, Top 10. What a boss. And as gordo will never stop saying, "have you seen him blast 8 feet out at Boulder skatepark?" Neer can do anything, even pull off that mustache. YEAH NEER!!! -Sven Martin (w/ help from gordo)
Josh Carlson with a solid start to the season. Seventh for the Aussie with a battered hand. -Sven Martin
Zakarias Blom Johansen berm blasting into sixth place. This race had quite a showing of new faces in the Top 10. -Sven Martin
Getting Loose over La Parva, stage four. -Sven Martin
Eddie Masters had a couple of flats and crashes today after a brilliant start yesterday. Plenty of time, Ed. Plenty of time. -Sven Martin
Early Start with shuttle plus ski lift up to stage four where you could watch streaks of racers taking their runs below you. #contrails -Sven Martin
Surprise result of the race perhaps? Cube's Gusto Wildhaber with fourth place and a commendable second day of racing. -Sven Martin
Dropping down the ridge out the start of stage four with Santiago in the not-so-distant distance. -Sven Martin
Bex Barona with a career best fourth place on her new team. -Sven Martin
Please allow 10-30 minutes for your video to be processed. You will receive an email when your video is finished processing.
Anita Gehrig came into the steep chuten on four a little too hot and clipped her wheel, sending her over the bars. A banged up body and sliced hand meant her weekend was over. -Sven Martin
Post-crash Anita. -Sven Martin
This EWS probably saw the largest amount of DNF'ers and retirements due to mechanicals, mostly wheel and tire related. Not surprising if you just look at the surface they are racing on. -Sven Martin
Actions (and pedal pins) speak louder than words. -Sven Martin
Keegan Wright having a go in the anti gravity wind tunnel by the chairlift. -Sven Martin
Sam Hill will keep this stub for some memories he will surely take away from here. -Sven Martin
Setting sun on the first race of the year and it was a massive one. -Sven Martin
Spot the Kiwi Junior! -Sven Martin
Your 2018 Enduro World Series leaders.
In Chile, it's not sissy champagne for the podium, rather large magnums of lusty beer! Buenos Noches. -Sven Martin
The last straight in a series of great tracks we've covered the last two days. Well done Chile, we love you. It's off to Colombia for the next round which will be an considerably different enviroment with moisture and vegetation. -Sven Martin --- Vital thanks Sven Martin for his incredible work this week. His ability to cover the ground and tell the story is akin to Sam's ability to destroy a gnarly, dusty track. YEW!!!
