Former Junior 24-hour racing World Champion has found himself as a washed-up enduro racer and full-time beard grower. The jolly giant is on a Santa Cruz Hightower LT in XXL size. Yep, double extra large. His previous bike was an XL Santa Cruz Nomad, but he says the XXL size is a revelation. He can confirm he is faster and looks much less gangly on the bigger bike. Big boys need big brakes, so he's running Shimano Saints with purple Hope rotors to slow down the new Santa Cruz Reserve carbon wheels. Middleburn RS8 cranks are a unique bit of bling aboard the Shimano XT drivetrain. No 125mm dropper here. Thomas is straddling a 200mm 9point8 dropper seatpost. Maxxis Minion DHF and DHR combo with Double Down rear and EXO front keep him hooked up. Suspension is running "soft" while tire pressure is "firm on the squeeze-o-meter." A little less tech, but definitely as crucial to performance, Thomas is especially particular about having pink grips to match his gloves and his Middleburn cranks.
Here's a geometry chart from Santa Cruz just for reference.
