Mitch Ropelato's Prototype Rear Shock at Val di Sole - Pit Bits: 2013 Val di Sole World Cup - Mountain Biking Pictures - Vital MTB

Mitch Ropelato is running the same shock we saw previously at the Port Angeles Underworld Cup, although this appears to be a newer version given the color change. Could it be made by Öhlins? The distinctive yellow spring and gold body say yes, but aside from acting as a consultant on the Cane Creek Double Barrel, the company hasn't dabbled much in MTB, instead focusing their efforts on motorcycle and auto racing. More when we get it...

Hot damn! I have been rooting for Manitou to come out with something since I had good luck in the past but apparently Marzocchi is gonna try to come back and now Ohlins? Lets see; Fox, Marzocchi, Rock Shox, XFusion, Cane Creek, Bos, Magura, Formula, White Brothers, SR Suntour, DVO...there's probably more. Does MTB really have enough of a market for that many suspension brands?

The one in Port A had the gold body spray painted black and a certain "O" logo that was etched into the body taped over.... hint, hint ;-)

Yep, going to be interesting to see what they will bring to the table. Would be sweet if they could make a fork also, so one could have locally made suspension.

That is, indeed, a brand new Öhlins shock in the making. The whole bike scene in Sweden is buzzing with rumors about them, as they had ads with open positions for a mountain bike specific section of the company and have been seen testing stuff out.
