Prototype Chris King Buzz Works Headset on Santa Cruz Syndicate Bikes at Pietermaritzburg - PIT BITS - Santa Cruz Syndicate Cockpit Setup - Mountain Biking Pictures - Vital MTB

Some of the Syndicate riders are running this prototype Chris King Buzz Works headset. We haven't been given specific details, but we believe it's a more refined version of what was seen on Greg Minnaar's bike in 2013. The offset headset cups take advantage the 1.5-inch head tube to extend the top tube length of the bike.

UPDATE: Chris King revealed the details of this headset on their blog.

From Chris King
For the 2014 season we worked with the Santa Cruz Syndicate to develop a special OffSet headset for their race bikes. You see, the gentlemen on the Syndicate are very very tall. So tall in fact that an extra large V-10 frame is even too short. Buzzworks created our OffSet headset to give Minnaar, Peat, and Bryceland an extra 8mm of cockpit room to help them handle the high speeds found in modern downhill racing. Combined with our patented GripLock retention system we are confident that the Syndicate boys will soon be steering their way to the top steps of the World Cup podium. The World Cup season kicks off this weekend in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and we hope you will join us in cheering on the team as they fly down the dusty African mountainside.

I think they are better developping and producing good products, than communicate with their costumers ;-)

Interesting approach.. It would also allow cockpit refinement up or down for someone that might not have gotten the right size, or is between sizes. clever way to sneak in some adjustability..
