The riders fight the rocks and the rocks fight back! Brook MacDonald and Rachel Atherton go fastest during timed training today in Losinj, Croatia, at the first World Cup Downhill race of 2018, while riders struggle to keep bikes and bodies in one piece. Sven, Boris, Dan, Lee and Johan bring the goods from the track today.

Brook MacDonald on fire again with a heater of a timed run going faster than anyone today. Sure "timed training means nothing" unless you're the fastest of the day, swimming in confidence. -Sven Martin
Yeeesss Bulldog! First timed run of the season back with his old MS Mondraker Team and his fastest timed training of his career. #whoopwhoooppp @maddogboris
If you climb a tree to take a pic of Rachel Atherton, you should make sure that you know how to get off that tree afterwards. #maddogonatree @maddogboris
Blenki smashing rocks like he just don't care. Second (and third) fastest time of the day. He had a flat for a long section of the track on his 2nd run, so expect him to go even quicker tomorrow. -Sven Martin
Your third fastest Elite man in Croatia today, Loris Vergier! @maddogboris
We are not sure if the guy who was responsible for the track section names, but some riders took them a bit too seriously. Brendan Fairclough. #pinnballbrendog @maddogboris
7th in timed training for Troy Brosnan with a 2nd place top split. #gordostillbelieves -Dan Hearn
You see what we are talking about?! @maddogboris
Unfortunately Mick Hannah is out with a broken finger and probably a concussion. Heal up soon. -Sven Martin
Tahnee sending the big double early this morning. These jumps are big but pretty much all of the women are sending them. -Sven Martin
Finn Iles is a smart lad, taking time to rest when the heat began to affect him rather than risk injury. He was looking fast in practice this morning and is ready to push hard. -Dan Hearn
Kaos Seagrave ain't afraid of walking under ladders or tricking jumps blind on his first run of the day. What a boss. -Sven Martin
Some parts of the track are constantly changing as rocks shift and gravel is dragged away. Jacob Dickson pictured with Giant Factory Off-Road team mate, Marcelo Gutierrez in audio. -Dan Hearn
World Cup veteran Johannes Fischbach rode in B practice for the second time ever due to a registration error. -Dan Hearn
First run down the hill today for Neko Mulally and Dakotah Norton this morning and Neko doing his best to get on The Inside Line. At the end of the Day Dakotah had the 10th fastest time and Neko the 38th. #justsaying @maddogboris
Loic Bruni only made down a few turns on his opening run this morning before ending his day with an elbow injury. He hopes to ride tomorrow. Hold thumbs. -Sven Martin
Damn it! That shouldn't be the first pic of Loic Bruni that I take at the 2018 World Cup. @maddogboris
Minnaar didn't do as many runs as others but he makes them count. -Sven Martin
Minnaar's puzzling was put to rest by Peaty's sideline analysis. -Dan Hearn
Tracey Hannah didn't have a competitive top-to-bottom timed run due to a nasty crash. She's ok and will be riding on Saturday. -Johan Hjord
Eddie Masters speeding by with one of the fastest first splits on the day. -Sven Martin
On other tracks the riders just clip a pedal and it maybe gets a bit wild. In Losinj they rip out rocks in the size of a watermelon. @maddogboris
Laurie Greenland styling it out with a functional scrub squasher. -Sven Martin
The drop that caught Claudio out yesterday. -Sven Martin
Gaeten Vige with some data acquisition today. -Sven Martin

Gee looking fast in his timed training run but with a few seconds to find before Sunday. -Dan Hearn
Myriam Nicole launching off one of the many walls into a rocky landing. -Sven Martin
Mille Johnset testing the limits of her suspension! -Dan Hearn
Kenta Gallagher should be about a foot to his left and heading straight towards the camera. But he's not, and that's cost him the air in his rear tire. -Lee Trumpore
Classic Blenki style: gloves off, elbows out. You can spot him a mile off. -Dan Hearn
Matt Walker was looking quick and comfortable up to speed until an OTB had him fall on his wrist. Prognosis is still a bit vague. -Sven Martin
First run, first jump right out the start gate. Not many hit it in the wind. But for some, it was NFG. -Sven Martin
Lots of nooks and crannies to shoot and/or avoid on this track. -Sven Martin
PropainRadialPan! @maddogboris
Commencal Junior, Thibaut Deprela went down hard today, but we wouldn't surprised if he ends up on the podium on Sunday! @maddogboris
New glasses and new helmet for Rachel today! -Sven Martin
Smiles for miles! Emilie Siegenthaler with the second-fastest timed run today. @maddogboris
#NFG Tracksuitpants, first run, windy, just send it! @maddogboris

If the mechanics have 3 complete wheelsets ready to go, you know its rocky out there! @maddogboris
Without a drop of rain in the forecast all week, practice was lit! -Lee Trumpore
Lee in the gutter getting the previous shot. -Johan Hjord
Yeoow, thumbs up Aaron! @maddogboris
Thanks Mercedes for parking your new pickup next to the track...so we can bend the mirror and shoot the first double together with some ocean and mountains. @maddogboris
The calm before the storm! 8am and the first riders are on their way to the start. #could getusedtothatview @maddogboris

The long first jumps mean a scouting run followed by commitment. World Champ, Miranda Miller dropping in. -Dan Hearn
#GasToFlat...or hopefully not on the rock-strewn Losinj track. -Dan Hearn
Brendog scrub-a-dub-dub aboard the new Scott DH bike. -Dan Hearn
This peaceful town is proving to be a great host for the Downhill circus. Quite the contrast to the war zone of a DH track. -Dan Hearn
Always keep a spare lens to hand in case of emergency. YT Mob filmer Brock VanHeel setting trends and filming bends. -Dan Hearn
Transition Muc-Off junior, Jamie Edmondson, had close encounter with some Croatian rocks. Or was trying to shave his eyebrows? -Dan Hearn
If ever there was a proving ground for a new bike, it's here. Team GT seem to be getting on well with their new steed. -Dan Hearn
A hurt and potentially broken wrist is not what Matt Walker had in mind for his first World Cup in Elite. Fingers crossed the diagnosis is positive. -Dan Hearn
For a brief 15 minutes it almost feels like a holiday. Just try not to think about the next 7 hours of editing. It's good to be back! -Dan Hearn
