Shimano's new XTR Di2 system was also on display. This system is really interesting in that it can be programmed to shift both the front and rear derailleur simultaneously using just one shifter. The shifter is mounted on the right-hand side so you still have room for a dropper post on the left.
As you shift through the gears, the system determines which gear ratio is best using a combination of the front and rear. It will shift the front and the rear at the same time occasionally, and when it does so, it indicates that it is going to do it with a beep just before the shift.
The advantage of this system is that instead of getting just 11 gears, you have increased range with many more gears to choose from for the best cadence over any type of terrain.
This system is coming closer to production and should be available in 2015. Check out how it works in this quick demonstration video:
